I'm not entirely sure about a few picks, but I think I'm gonna make it the following

1. Rakim
2. Kool G Rap
3. KRS
4. Common
5. LL Cool J
6. GZA
7. Black Thought
8. Nas
9. Aceyalone
10. O.C.

I had to give props to Aceyalone if only because of his masterpiece the Book of Human Language. O.C. is just consistently good.

AZ should've been in this list in his prime, but he fell off. Eminem isn't really my thing anymore. Chuck D was never really my thing and BDK is def one of the greatest but somehow I left him out anyway.

And even though KRS is lyrically not as complex as the rest of the rappers, the guy is a legend for all the music he made. Besides, simplicity has its charm. Take 'Who protects us from you?' from the Blueprint. It's incredibly simple lyrically, but the greatness of the song keeps surprising me.

not much has changed with my shit, although what has is pretty big, no order after the first 3

1. Pharoahe Monch - greatest hip hop artist ever ever, no question

2. Rakim - greatest flat out mc ever, even to this day he still pens amazing verses

3. Kool G Rap sounds just as good now as he ever did, still better then any other mc out right now

4. Kool Keith - after a ruff patch from 2000 to 2004 Keith seems to be back on track, dropping dope album after dope album

5. GZA - on any given month I might go through all of his albums back to back, thats saying somthing

6. LL Cool J - one of the best song writers ever, also a nasty mc

7. Scarface - been bumping Mr Face a lot this year, one of the greatest gangsta rappers ever

8. MF DOOM - a love hate mc, I love him. so many classic joints, fantastic production, just an amazing artist.

9. Eminem - still blows my mind with some verses he drops, one of the greatest ever and always entertaining

10. Jay-Z - really been getting into Jigga as of late, not many mc's can craft pop classics and still drop shit to make even underground heads be like "damn!". Jigga is one of the most versatile artist of all time and lyric for lyric one of the best to ever spit

Pharoahe Monch is no doubt one of the best mc's ever, but I find it hard to put him in the top ten for the following reasons. First, he was accompanied by Prince Po on his best material. I think it's hard to give credit just to PM for the OK albums. His solo albums are good as well, but in terms of mc-ing no top ten material in my opinion. Can't blame anyone for putting him in the top ten though.

while I agree that his best work is with OK I dont fault him for it, its true that his solo albums are not on the same level, but that OK shit is perfection, you would be hard pressed to find ANY albums as good as those, I think that fact that he went solo and put out music almost as good speaks volumes about him.

he's shown the same brilliance solo as he did with OK, his concepts are still genius and his flows still untouchable. and looking at him from purely an mc aspect aint no one who can fuck with him, albums aside dude can flat out spit it better then anyone

but I must say its good to see somone else with LL in his top 10, dudes bug out when I put LL up there

Everyone prolly wonderin where Kool G Rap is, aside from 4,5,6 and Roots of Evil, I can't get into him. His ol school shit doesnt do it for me. Plus now a days he's been coming pretty weak. Giacana Story was bullshit, I never heard so many forced rhymes in my life... and Half a Clip was just ight. His guest verses have been slacking too. I give him props though, he's a pioneer of the game.

well i think you also miss the point...not necessarily tryin to say your point is irrelevant or that even if you considered this, but the reason monch is reasonably in top 10 based on shyne's perception is because if you look at it......monch still had a career after OK, however prince po put some material out to less than stellar reception; it was clear who was the more capable MC....i dont know if i put monch in my top 10 too but definitely top 20 or 15.......

I personally like how Pharoahe Monch flows. That joint 'Stress' is magnificent. He almost sings, cries and raps at the same time. It's something that sticks with you as you listen.

But I understand what you mean. It's just that I think his solo albums don't nearly reach the level of the likes of Kool G, Rakim, KRS etc. I feel like this can be another never-ending discussion, though, so I'm not sure whether there's a point to try and refute each other's arguments.

ALHS and DA are better than Slaughtahouse and Sittin' On Chrome and Take A Look Around. Not to shit on those albums cause they hot, but ALHS and DA are classics, no debating that. And they were made in this millennium. Plus, Ace is more active now and has had more success now, then he did in the '90s or at the start of his career (late '80s).

The Symphony of course is classic, but shit is pretty played out for me. Not taking anything away from it, but I've spun it so much it really doesn't hold a lot of value for me anymore. It's a staple point in Hip Hop, no doubt, but I'd bump the weakest song off DA over The Symphony any day.

Plus, Ace gets doper production now, imo. Kinda helps it a long a lil.
