Cage - Depart from Me, Eyedea and Abilities - By the Throat, La Coka Nostra - A Brand You Can Trust, Joe Budden - Escape Route

*im still somewhat shocked by how much I DONT like this album. I thought the first two songs he released were cool but as I told ATI at the time, if he does this for a whole album its going to be boring as fuck, sadly he did indeed do it for the whole fucking album. First problem is the production, it sucks, flat out, not very good at all and not anything I wanna listen to. Next the weak hooks, I respect Cage trying to expand his song writing but damn, the hooks are some terrible indy rock shit gone wrong, not very good. Lyrics are cool in small doses but he overdose it on the whole album, shit literally makes me feel like I want to cut my own wrist, very depressing for no reason.

Highlight though is "Fat Kids Need and Anthem", track has a lot of energy and fantastic lyrics and Cage actually sounds passionate about what he's spitting, I couldnt help but smile when he said some shit like "I was happier when I was fat, I used to fantasize about girls, now I fantasize about food I cant eat"

overall though the album is pretty "meh", i'll see how it grows on me in the coming months but as of this moment its a ...

*lot of people didnt like this, I loved it though. My first thought when listening to this was "huh, I bet this is the sound Cage was aiming for". Aside from the first track which was terrible, the rest of the album is dope. The production is fast paced and always up tempo (even when the subject aint), the hooks are actually really catchy considering its Eydea doing his whole emo rock thing, and the lyrics and flows are what we expect from an mc like Eydea. The song writing is really good and fun to listen to, sadly the album clocks in at like...29 minutes or somthing, def a low point, still a very solid album.

*I honestly never expected this to be as good as it is, thought it would sound thrown together, I was shocked that it worked so well as an LP. the production is banging, a nice mix of raw hip hop with some Rock Hop thrown in to the mix, the rock music isnt ever really overdone though which is nice so people who aint fans of that dont need to worry. the mc's are all amazing, Ill Bill shines as always, using both his rap voice and his rock voice, Slain is fucking amazing, and Everlast puts together some very dope hooks, Danny Boy and DJ Lethal only add to the already dope formula.

the songs are varied in subjects, from talking shit, to politics, to real talk, a little bit of everything for everyone, songs for every mood. Def a surprise hit of the year.

*not much to say on this, more of the same, production is ok, concepts are the same shit Budden been doing, Flows are the same as well, its a solid listen, but nothing I would go out of my way to listen to again.

I can't believe you liked the Coka Nostra album. I thought it wouldn't be worth my time. I like their joint 'Do it' on the Soul Assassin's album though.
