for the peepers. Kurupt&Quik, Mos Def, Eminem
![]() *Start with this, I had VERY high expectations for this album, Quik is one of my favorite artist all time, second best West Coast producer next to Madlib and a very slept on mc, Kurupt I like a lot at times as well...although I feel like he's usually very lazy on the mic. Production first, for the most part its amazing, Quik has taken it to another planet with this one, 'Ohh!' has amazing single potential and 'Hey Playa! (Moroccan Blues)' blows my fucking mind, so dope. Missteps do come in the form of the annoying 'Exodus' and run of the mill 'Wachta Wan Do', overall though its dope. The mc's are on point about 60% of the time, Kurupt displays short burst of brilliance but usually loses focus, Quik on the other hand does him the whole record through hardly ever dissapointing and usually stealing the show. Although to be honest both mc's lack concepts and often fall in to subjects that are either too shallow or have been done to death, I have no interest in hearing anymore songs about bitches..sorry. The record as a whole is good but not great, could have been amazing but for now im waiting on BlaQKout 2 Overall 3/5 .................................................. .......................... ![]() *this record is everything I wanted it to be, amazing production, ill flows, and Mos Def in to form. Nothing about this disappointed me, I mean you have fucking Slick Rick rocking a Madlib beat! CLASSIC! even the song he has in Spanish gets a lot of play, I dont understand what he's saying but the song as a whole is almost beautiful, the production and vocals harmonize perfectly. Im going to try to keep this one short, this is Mos Def saying fuck you to ever person saying he didnt have it in me (myself included) he's pulled out all the stops and created an album that will go down as a classic, get mad haters. Overall 5/5 (yeah thats right, motherfucking 5 bitches) .................................................. ......................... ![]() *I actually reviewed this before so I wont be saying much, only that its grown on me in a big way, I originally gave it 3.5 but im officially bumping it to a 4 Only song I dont really like is 'Insane' where Em uses a surprisingly amateur flow and rhyme scheme that make it seem as if he's freestyling the track. This is def an album I need to be in the mood for, the subject matter is still all the same which dulls the shock value of whats being said and some things are just so far removed from being relevant that I just dont find the entertaining (the whole Mariah thing comes to mind), when im in the mood to hear it though its a very solid album. Overall 4/5

Damn...I'ma have to listen to that Mos Def album. Don't care for Kurupt so I'm not gonna check that out...Also I've only given the Em album like two spins. I can't get into it for some reason, theres some dope tracks on it but i found it kinda weak. I'll prolly give it some more spins here this week.

Wasn't big on the Mos album on the first listen, but its pretty musically complex, gonna have to spin it several times to get a good grip of it, it's getting universal acclaim, though. Still, a 5?
And the Em album has a few great songs and some ill rhyme schemes, but its mostly uninteresting and forgettable. I'll stick to my 3.5, if that, it's pretty generous.

New Mos album, from what I heard (which has only been a few cuts), is trash. A 5 makes me doubt your standards.

doubt all you like, Mos killed it. Rocking over production Madlib, Oh No, Jay Dilla, and Chad Hugo? forget about it. as I said before album is everything I wanted it to be, its the perfect album for me as a Mos Fan, at the very least though its easily a 4/5, if not 4.5/5
p.s. @ ATI, even after more listens you might not dig it as much, ive know you long enough to know what type of music you like and dont, and this really isnt the type of thing you enjoy as much as me, more of a MF DOOM vibe then anything, and we all know how you feel about DOOM

And for the record, those are trash producers. Mos rocking over production from Premo, Ayatollah, Diamond D, Psycho Les, and Ali Shaheed, is everything I want a Mos album to be.

hate to break it to you but that shit about letting music age is bullshit for the most part, true some albums can get "better" or worse with time but not by leaps and bounds, chances are your third or fourth impression of an album is whats going to stick with you forever. Classic music is classic music from the day it drops, nothing gets "better" with time, you just learn to appreciate it more

fair enough, im just going to leave it at this, music does not age, only the people listening to it. that piece of music you hear now is going to be the same music people hear in 50 years.

Again, I'm not gonna argue it, it would be futile to do so. But you didn't address the point I made about the producers. Peace.

wasnt any point to be addressed imo, I would love to see Mos rock over production from those cats as well, I think it would be amazing.

Those were the (main) producers on BOBS. The point was the cats you mentioned were trash.

why would you want another BOBS though? its already been done, anything he made sounding remotely like that automatically wouldnt live up to the original, Mos needed to evolve and move on to new sounds and thats exactly what he did, I dont want a rehash of an album or sound he already perfected years ago

ill is right about music aging...and it might be a matter of opinion, but shit does change....even if you say somethin was made now and its a fuckin classic, shit will age....its like a fuckin car (even though you cant compare it), a car back then considered a classic might not be classic anymore.....it may be a classic because of its old age, but it aint classic, cause they dont age great overtime as their value decreases with technology improving etc....... The only thing I heard was the Eminem album and I thought it was sub-par at best. Why are you giving it a four out of five? It makes me distrust your judgment.

the rhymes alone are worthy of a 3.5/5, couple that with the fantastic story telling, ever changing flow and solid production and it gets the bump. This is def going to be one of those albums people look back on in 5 years and really appreciate.

i'm not feeling the em or mos as much as you. em's voice gets too annoying; mos's singing does the trick for Ecstatic. that being said, mos's shit has some good moments (when I heard Slick Rick start spitting on that one verse I almost shit my pants)

Shyne, you were wrong, like usual -_-
Just listened to the album again, and I already like it MUCH more than I did the first few go-arounds. It's def. on some artsy, experimental shit, so I can easily see some people getting turned off it, but a good amount of it is really good, I don't even mind his singing (the Spanish joint is one of the best, lol). Obviously, all progressiveness aside, I'd rather have another album of him dumbing out on some Black on Both Sides shit, but this album is pretty dense, and I think for the most part, he pulls off the whole going left angle relatively well. Seems like the type of album that you gotta be in the mood for, though, definitely not easily-listening.
