![]() Been bumping this all day (and night) and it blows my mind how dope it still is, I remember when it came out I was working at K-Mart, they had a fucking shit load sitting in the back 2 weeks before it came out, it took every fiber of my being not to boost a copy, it was easily worth the wait though. This album was pretty much the soundtrack of 06 for me and my people, it got played so much and each one of us owned a copy, we would go from bumping this in the car to kicking it in the crib with this on repeat, even dudes who didnt cop albums had a copy of this. looking back on it now its def got a few cracks in its armor, but almost all of them superficial, had they cut all the skits, the bonus track with BIG, and possibly 'Back Like That' then this could have easily been a 5/5 album. Hell they dont even need to cut the BIG track, just remove his lyrics (nothing against BIG, just felt very out of place). They could have cut this from a 24 track dope album to a 16 track classic. I dont know, its just one of those albums that played a huge roll in my life, I was out of high school, fucking around with my friends every night, drinking, smoking, ect. I cant listen to this without thinking of all those amazing times, like it takes me back in time with it, any of ya'll have albums like this? somthing that just synced up so well with your life it became a part of it? WARNING: Everything after this sentence deviated in to another topic I had planned but decided to cram in to here to save the forum from looking cluttered with Shyne topics my whole life could probably be summed up in a few albums.. Born to 6 - Children's music of course, also at 6 I was introduced to the epic that was TLC's 'Crazy, Sexy, Cool', one of my favorite albums of all time 7-8 - Method Man's Tical, one of the first hip hop albums I ever truly loved, not even cause Meth was dope, I didnt understand rap that well back then, I just loved the music and the way it made me feel, it was very dark and moody for its time -Bone Thugs Crossroads, not even the album cause I didnt play it that heavy, but that single impacted me in a big way 8-12 - Nas's It Was Written, 'If I Ruled the World' ruled my yound mind, I didnt really grasp how deep Nas was getting but that hook and beat were a killer, it later made me go back and check the Fugee's, a group my mom was a fan of at the time, that sparked a whole nother passion for hip hop and a one Ms Lauryn Hill, which leads me too... The Fugee's album 'The Score', the hooks were amazing, beats were smooth, and the mc's were fire Pharoahe Monch's Internal Affairs is one of the first album I REALLY listened to and dissected everything he was saying, I couldnt get enough of this cd 13-14 - Eminem's Marshal Mathers blew me away, I didnt care for Slim too much on his first album at the time, thought it sounded too much like an ICP record, MMLP though changed everything, I was actually working with my brother a janitor and we would play this cd every fucking night, all the way through, twice. 15-16 - Jay-Z's Blueprint 2, a LOT of people didnt, and still dont like this album, myself I wasnt really a Jigga fan at the time, all I really heard was his pop shit and I stayed away, but my man hit me with this and I was blown away by how illy Jigga could get, I realized what I had been missing out on. I had been around his music most of my life but my dislike for his singles had kept me from really delving in to his projects. 17-18 - 5 albums ruled my life at this time. Common's Be was fantastic, an instant classic, Cage's Hellz Winter was like nothing I had heard before, Beans's the B Coming was everything I had hoped it would be, and GZA's Grandmasters was just the dose of lyricism I was looking for. then of course the album mention in this thread, Ghostface had it on lock. 19-21 - I havnt really had any albums grab me the way the previous years before did, some that come to mind though are Monch's Desire, Common's Finding Forever, and Kanye's Graduation note that some of the dates may be slightly off, im going off of memories here and we all know mine is shit, feel free to create your own list though

i cant believe myself for reading your entire list....but propz on your history!
but i do agree with you......ghostface's fishscale album is fuckin classic to me...shit is mindblowin........and i dont know why....most cats always say its this one track (the mainstream track that destroys the whole credibility or just the whore aurora of the album)........back like that was a dope track, maybe too mainstreamish, but it was fuckin good yeah the last track was kinda weird with biggie.....i mean i like these homages and i know their prior beef, but seriously though.....i guess he wanted to be the bigger brethern and show love.......track was good regardless |

Even though I agree that it def. could have been trimmed a little bit, it's like you said, basically a modern-classic. I actually liked both the single and the Biggie "collab" joint

see dont get me wrong, its not like I thought it was a bad track, it just sounds so out of place, you're going through this whole album of Ghost ripping shit up then all of the sudden BAM! Biggie is rapping on a song, I just couldnt figure out what purpose that served to the album, that spot could have easily gone to another Wu member.
p.s. indeed a long read looking back on it, better insert a warning in to it ![]() I was going to make another topic but then seen I had like 6 on the main page anyways and didnt want to flood it anymore with my shit p.p.s. listening to it again as I was falling asleep last night, most of the skits are actually welcome, I like most of them, I guess my main complaint was with 'Heart Street Directions (Skit)', I felt like it ran way too long and wasnt nearly funny enough to justify it. oh and last gripe, fucking 'Charlie Brown' got cut! that was one of my favorite joints! I think they had sample issues though

Good read....Fishscale is my shit, but like ATI said though it could have been shortened.
Also More Fish gets slept on quite a bit...It goes just as hard as this imo. |

I've never really got into Ghost as a lot of other hip-hop fans. I don't know why, but I always thought it was mostly a lot of hollow screaming and bad singing. Not to say he can't make dope tracks or dope albums. I think he is especially dope on the 36 Chambers album, but then everything was dope about that album.
The albums most important to me must be BDP's By all means, Binary Star's Masters of the Universe, Long Live the Kane, Violent by design (JMT), Enter the Wu-tang, Liquid Swords, Supastition's Deadline EP, Non Phixion's The future is Now, IT's Rev. Vol. 2, Aceyalone's Book of Human Language, Arsonists's As the World Burns and there's probably a lot more. JMT, Arsonists and Non-Phixion got me into Underground, although Leak Bros's Waterworld was the first underground album I've ever listened to. The albums that made me like Hip-Hop are perhaps less impressive and very cliche, but it's true anyway: Chronic 2001, Slim Shady LP, DMX's Great Depression and Get Rich or Die Tryin'. Of all of those I have to say that 50 Cent probably made the most impact, because it made Hip-Hop my main music genre. It's funny what you said about Jay, Shyne. That's exactly how I still feel about him right now. A lot of commercial boastin', but no intelligent content. He's above average at most. I thought the Blueprint was a piece of crap, but I've never heard Blueprint 2. My friends try and convince me constantly that Jay is a great mc, but I haven't heard a lot of evidence of that yet. |

i think fishscale would be the best wu CD outside of liquid swords & cuban linx if the skits were cut. the reason is that he's doing a little of everything, from surreal shit ("underwater" or whatever it was called) to bragging ("the champ") to ghost and rae going in ("kilo"). love this album, and i'm usually not a big fan of ghost.

I've heard both. I think those are the best I've heard thusfar, but I still can't see why he should be considered a top-5 mc. Not to attack you on that or anything, but it's what I heard a lot.

cosign. both albums had some hot tracks, but then other times jay is kinda stuttering his way over a sub-par beat.

for the record I dont dislike 'back like that', I just think that in sounded out of place in the album, the album has a very unique sound but then that cut sounds very formulaic, not a bad track just out of place

^^if that's the case, then i'd argue for "Be Easy" getting cut as well.
