I mean ive always been a fan and own almost every album they've done, but as far as them being one of the greatest hip hop groups go's I wasnt convinced. I mean yeah Preemo is the GOAT producer but the group as a whole I never rated that high, no real reason either, I just didnt. That was until I started bumping this...



A greatest hits compilation with the best songs, remix's, and a few new joints, and honestly after spinning this for 3 days straight im convinced of their greatness. It used to be I would bump a Gang Starr album and just vibe out, not really paying attention, I mean lets be honest guys, Guru doesnt have the most ear grabbing voice or energy, but after listening to this through the headphones and being forced to focus on his every word and flow....it just blew me away.

Guru and Preemo work so well together, all those years of me never getting why Preemo chose Guru over guys like Nas or AZ finally makes since (<<<side not: im almost positive im not using the right word here..), Guru may not be the most lyrical mc, but he is NASTY on the mic, flow and lyrics hit hard and his subject matter is always interesting, he's a very underrated story teller as well. To the dudes who already get it im sure im just preaching to the choir, but for cats like INS who I know isnt the biggest Gang Starr fan, def consider giving this a spin, it may be what wins you over.

also on a side not, Jeru the Damaja, with the right production, could seriously be a force in todays underground. his flow is just as dope today as it was back then and he's just as sharp on the mic, should him and Preemo ever hook up again im sure they could craft a classic

i kinda had the same thing. i had all of their stuff on my computer, and would listen to it occasionally, but never really got super into it.

then one day for some reason, it just clicked. ow Right Where You Stand is one of my most played tracks on my ipod. Jada was nice on it too

gang starr is definitely one of my top 5 favorite groups guru makes some of the best points and his lyricism is always on point and premo is my favorite producer

i seriously consider guru as one of the greatest emcees to touch the mic.......everyone always say guru's voice is boring....yeah we all know that, but like you said shyne...his monotone style and flow works perfectly......he says shit very basic and elementary yet it is informative (almost like story telling style) and powerful


gang starr is one of the best duos imo too......dont think anyone can beat these dudes' catalogues and products over the years


its sad that guru is now rockin wit this other dj named greatest dj solar and he's claiming THATs gang starr.....and premo is just acting all tight and shit and says if guru is ready im ready.......i think there was a fall out and premo is just tryin to be the nice dude


and yeah shyne....jeru is fuckin crazy......i think the dude is an okay producer in his own right.....but i dont think the dude fallen off.....i wish they can keep the bullshit aside and make music.....but bullshit is really deep and very conflictin


what's the best premo track this year thus far.....grand royal was nahhh, blaq poet's shit nahhhhh...........az better come correct wit premo this year wit a tracc

actually I had just drank a colt when writing this...hhhh

also I wrote "sense" the first time and my spell check tried to tell me it didnt exist. fucker.but seriously Gang Starr is one of the most consistent groups ever, a Greatest hits honestly does little to trick you cause you can pick up almost ANY of their cd's and its all dope front to back. lastly the last Jeru album wasnt too bad, not amazing but much better then I expected it to be.
