Am I the only one tired of AZ?

This is pretty much inspired by that Nas vs AZ thread. Im sure all of us can agree that AZ is a dope artist, very nice mic skills and very underrated, but honestly he has gotten soooo fucking boring the last few years, for example

AWOL (2005)
The Format (2006)
Undeniable (2008)
Final Call (2008)
N4L (2008)

all of these albums sound almost exactly the same, hell you could mix and match songs from the first 3 and no one who even notice, AZ keeps picking the same slowed down soul beats and kicking the same slowed down flow over them, each album will have at least one amazing track (The Format title cut for example) but the rest almost sound like filler. Im not knocking his mic skills because speaking only of rhymes AZ has killed it on each one of these, his vocab is sick, but his flow hasnt changed at all in almost 5 years, and when you're putting out an album a year (sometimes more in this case) you need to come with some fresh styles.

I love AZ but he needs to find new producers, move away from that dreary soul sounds, ditch the slow as a snail flow, and come with some new sounds. Dude wonders why his sales are so low, its cause if you've heard one AZ album you've heard of all, so why bother copping the same shit over again with just slightly different beats? any thoughts people?

I wanted to stop following him after Final Call, but listened to AWOL anyway because people were recommending it. After that I did stop however. I know exactly what you mean. But whatever he puts out now, we still got Doe or Die anyways.

On the side-note I've got that joint Never Change from the AWOL cd on LP together with Chillin'. That was magnificent.

AWOL is my favorite AZ album, along with Doe or Die, don't try to discredit that album for it's too dope. The Format was cool but sounds a lot like AWOL, as you said. the rest, i haven't checked due to lack of interest

Dont get me wrong, AWOL is illness, I remember when that shit dropped and how blown back everyone was, but in the grand scheme of things its also the point where you can start to see his decline, its where he starts to fall in to a rut. Im not really calling any of the albums bas (except N4L), im just saying that AZ didnt do what he could have with them.

Same here...AWOL was crack rocks, and the newer albums wasn't gettin that MUCH love, so I asumed he was just re using the formula. I don't think I gave a whole listen to any of the albums that came after it, should I check at least one of em?

Completely agree, I actually did put the best songs from three of those albums into one mix (Aziatic, A.W.O.L., and The Format). He also generally lacks any variation in subject matter, and when he did switch it up, it was a half-assed jack of Nas' concept. So yeah, he's a really talented emcee, but in hindsight, he lacks the material to be put on the same echelon as some top-tier rappers.

I would say all of em are worth at least one listen, like I said they're not bad by any means (except N4L, but maybe thats me) just all kinda sound the same. The Format is pretty ill though, I would def check that.

shyne im wit u man......but to tell u the truth, i actually look forward to AZ's first single in any upcoming album of his (because all his 1st singles deliver)....but his albums are trash, they are okay, but they aint the ones that u would call 'one of the best from that year'.......az is just kinda like in nas' position where he has some wack producers (besides his first single which is always fuckin crazy)......he doesnt really change his style up, but he keeps it AZ, which is always a plus

and also, how u gonna call n4l an album, wasnt that shit mixtape material........im hoping he actually comes through on his next album, but im just expecting a tight single and a filler album as always

AZ always sounds the same in everything really, and that type of shit puts me to sleep. But when you go through his catalog and listen to shit like AWOL or Doe... it really gets you into an AZ mood.

But ya, he needs to really start switching shit up to reinvent himself.

I'm pretty sure that everyone here can listen to and fall in love with a AZ album but when you listen to that shit everyday it just bores the shit outta me. I get into those az moods though (pause).
