**Make your decision based on SOLO work only, as 'The Future Is Now' is a classic, and even though I.B. is prevalent on the album, it doesn't make it an Ill BIll solo project, factoring that in alone would make the thread easily one sided.**
VS. ![]() Two New York bred MC's that are very different and very similar in certain aspects. I thought this would be a good comparison seeing as they've put out about the same amount of official solo releases, with 2 albums credited to Ill Bill & Cage has 2 albums to his name aswell as an EP. Both of their content is edgy, which can put off most people right from the start, Cage raps about cuttin people up, orgies, drugs, etc. but does so in a way that is for the most part entertaining. Ill Bill on the other hand chooses to tackle some of the same subjects but is moreso inclined to talking about political issues, gangs, & religion. They both have a good ear for beats, although I slightly like Ill Bill's production over Cage's, that just comes down to personal preference I guess. Their both great at executing concept tracks, for example from Cage you have gems like Among The Sleep (Best described as a fucked up version of eLZhi's 'Talking In My Sleep'), Agent Orange (Where he plays Alex of 'A Clockwork Orange' in his own mind), A Suicidal Failure, Subtle Art Of A Breakup Song (executed perfectly), etc. among others. Ill BIll's got tracks like The Anatomy of a School Shooting (incredible), Chasing The Dragon, Too Young, U.B.S. (Unauthorized Biography of Slayer, which, I read up a little on Slayer and everything he said was on point), etc. and others. At first I was leaning towards Ill Bill, but I revisted 'Hell's Winter' tonight and it's argueably a classic, and might shift my vote to undecided, factoring in the EP maybe even slight it for Cage...esspecially since these Cage tracks have leaked, 'Depart From Me' is one of my most anticipated albums of the year. Leave it. **Couldn't embed the youtube vids, some1 tell me how b **

If you would have asked me in 07 I would have given it to Cage easily off of HW alone, but after Bills last album man, fucking amazing, instant classic. Taking in to account that Bill has one amazing solo album, one good album and one amazing group album (the Green album was dope as well, more of a compilation then album though), vs Cage's One really amazing album, one good album, and 2 good group albums...I would say its pretty close, but Bill just owns it with HOR

I'm going Ill Bill also. Hell's Winter was a great listen, but it wasn't the same Cage from the Em feud, and "In Stoney Lodge" and Leak Bros. Ill Bill has stayed nasty his entire career, and The Hour of Reprisal is one of my all-time favorite albums.
As a side note, it looks like Depart From Me will be Cage's worst album yet. That single Jux is pushing....

Listened to Hell's Winter again today. Shit is fucking classic. "Subtle Art of the Break-Up Song" is so sick. Then I listened to "Leak Bros..." Thinking maybe I shoulda voted for Kennylz. Both are sick as fuck though.

If you're only counting solo material, I don't really care for post movies for the blind Cage, I also don't care for Hour of Reprisal.
Hell's winter and beyond cage is too emo, Ill Bill's flow on Hour of Reprisal got to be boring. The production/music on that album is fuckin class, but his raps just... wore out with me. Guest spots certainly didn't do shit to help either. I like B-real but the cliche gangsta wanna be "Let's reach the 14 year old kids trying to thug" type shit just blah..... I like What's wrong with Bill, but I like Movies for the blind more. |
