04/28/08 - 9th Wonder's Production On The Formula

So I've noticed that 9th Wonder usually gets a lot of praise from underground fans, who many times overrate his work quite a bit, especially his stuff with Little Brother, which I find to be a little monotonous

and generally I find his production to be above-average but I find it usually gets repetitive and slightly boring when he holds down entire albums

Therefore, I'm surprised his work with Buckshot on The Formula is getting so thoroughly ignored...maybe people just don't care to check it...but I definetly think it's one of 9th's better attempts at producing an entire album

His sample-based production, mixed with some live interpretations is very solid throughout, at times very dope, others simply pretty good, and even though Buckshot is very average on the album, 9th really impressed me with this one

Actually, the LB breakup seems to have benifitted both camps...I felt Getback was LB's most entertaining album to date, and 9th last two production efforts (the other being his Dream Merchant 2 LP) seem to be getting more consistently solid

Thoughts?

To tell you the truth I havn't even checked the buckshot album.. And 9ths best attempt at producing an album to me has to be the first Murs joint he did hands down.

Im not a fan of 9th wonder, only track that was memorable to me was heartburn.

the formula is pretty dope

he is one of my favorite producers but he always keeps a continuos loop through the whole song and never switches it up for the hooks and different verses
