Prodigy H.N.I.C. Pt. 2 Koch Records Real Power Is People Preceded by a conspiracy theory-laden-intro, Prodigy kicks off the album by adeptly stressing the power of the streets in the grand scheme of things. Sid Roams, who with The Alchemist produce the bulk of the album, provides the Blood Money-esque production to set the dark tone for the LP. The Life Prodigy doesn't shy away from professing his loyalty to the streets, as he chooses delivery over substance on this horror-core-inspired number. Young Veterans The Alchemist keeps the dark ambiance rolling with a killer, Mountain-sampling, electric-guitar-infused production that compliments Prodigy's gangsta vaunting ("my dudes give out the wounds that never heal"). Illuminati For all of Prodigy's recent conspiracy theory ramblings, this song is based in irony rather than fact or humor. First, P stresses that the Illuminati is "not a theory," implies that a world-dominating secret society has him on their target list, and mentions that he has previously been unable to articulate his opinions effectively, despite the fact that his lyrical skill continues to deteriorate. Still, it manages to be entertaining. New Yitty Un-inspired rhymes over a generically-gritty production from Sid Roams. ABC The alphabet-song-turned-chorus is sung by some creepy-sounding children, and the hauntingly sweeping production makes up for Prodigy's empty lyrics. For all the caps-filled blogging P's been up to lately, he sure doesn't have much to say on this album. Click Clack This one follows the blueprint from Return of the Mac, with Prodigy dropping simplistic gangster rhymes over dark-soul production. Big Twinz wasn't on ROTM, and there's no logical reason for him to appear here. Veteran's Memorial Part II The Alchemist, who was already an adept producer as it was, really seems to be coming into his own on the past two Prodigy albums. Here, he meshes some Blueprint-era sped-up-vocals with his traditionally-gloomy backdrop, as Prodigy reminisces about the influence of his late father on his street upbringing. Field Marshal P The first of two Havoc/Prodigy tracks on the album is hampered by a slightly-repetitive production effort by Hav, and rhymes from Prodigy that range from forgettable to somewhat clever ("they 'wanna do the kid like my ni**a Sean Bell). 3 Stacks The above-average, conventional gangster rap production saves this one from being completely terrible. The chorus here highlights the lazy song writing on the album, and Big Twinz, probably the most annoying rapper to appear on a Mobb project, makes an encore appearance. When I See You You'd think Apex, the producer behind "I Get Money," could possibly breathe some life into the back portion of the album, but sadly, that isn’t the case. It's Nothing Sounds like one of those faux-Dr. Dre beats that 50 Cent probably could have used for Curtis. Here, Prodigy just sounds forced in keeping up with the up-tempo banger. I Want Out Thankfully, Havoc's second contribution is a keeper, eerie synths and all. Hav's guest-raps also give the song a sense of familiarity and chemistry that several of the other collabs on the album clearly lack. Overall For what it's worth, Prodigy's dated sequel to his debut solo LP doubles as a decent follow-up to last year's Return of the Mac. Still, despite the fact that the solid production carries the album for the most part, you can't help thinking that P would have been better served getting rid of the useless guest spots and letting ALC handle the production by himself.
