I always knew that a bar was 2 lines... but when people post 16 lines and call it 16 bars it throws me off.

as far as i can tell Nokster, people that text count a bar as 2 lines, but for the most part each line is a bar, thats the way i see it anyway

but to the kid, errr what do u mean learn to write bars ? do u need a series of lessons to go // at the end of a line and hit enter or return to get to the next line ?

You guys are retarded. A bar is a single line. Cats on the internet got it confused like crazy. A bar is defined as 4 beats, or 2 hits on the snare. Hence, one line equals one bar. What you guys think is a bar, is actually called a couplet, which is 2 lines.

iLLy, I mean I heard that 1 bar = 1 sentence, I got my thinking cap on and decided to check out some lyrics of MCs. They all have 16 sentences for a verse... thus making each verse 16 bars. But in most cases, a song usually goes on for 2 verses... 3 also... but most commonly 2.

Thus meaning that by default, all songs have 32 bars? That's the shit that gets me confused cuz cats always talk about spitting a hot 16 or w/e the fuck they like calling it. But it's always referred to a 16 and not a '32'.

Okay, you phrased that very akwardly, so I'm not sure this will actually answer your question so I'll do my best. First off, when you say sentence I'm going to assume you mean line. A verse is generally regarded as being made up of 16 lines, 16 bars. When an emcee talks about a 'hot 16' or whatever, they mean that particular verse. If there's two verses on a song, and they talk about a hot 16, then they are refering to the one that contains the 'hot 16' line. Furthermore, it isn't regarded as a 32 because as I've said, a verse is known containing 16 lines, when talking about a song, a specific verse, or 16, is usually being talked about, not the song in general.
