BREAKING NEWS: Ras Kass Finally Released From Capitol Records

After several years of fighting to get released from his recording contract with Capitol Records, Ras Kass is finally being set free.

The rapper recently revealed that he entered into a settlement agreement with the label, but the exact terms of which have not been disclosed.

But nonetheless, Ras Kass (real name: John Austin) is legally free of obligations to the label and is free to sign with whatever label he chooses.

"I am just relieved and thankful to my management team, all the magazines that showed me love since this started and everyone that showed their support for me over these past few years," said Ras Kass of the long overdue departure. "Now I am anxious to finally be able to pursue my passion, spread my wings and remind the world why Ras Kass is one of the greatest MCs of all time, dead or alive."

Ras Kass originally signed with Priority Records through a deal with Patchwerk Records where he released 1996's critically acclaimed Soul On Ice, followed by 1998's Rassassination. Shortly after, he re-signed directly with Priority and was set to drop Van Gogh in 2001, but the label's merger with Capitol, which was taking place at that time, affected the promotion of that project and after being pushed back twice, the project was permanently shelved by the label.

Despite it being shelved, it was leaked on the internet and had been very well received by Ras' fan base.

An album titled Goldyn Chyld, featuring new material, was to replace Van Gogh in 2002, but this project was eventually shelved as well, following a bitter dispute between Ras Kass and Capitol.

The rapper went on a campaign asking for his release from the label, but was also on the run from the authorities after a warrant was issued following an arrest for drunk driving. While a fugitive, he recovered the masters of his albums from Priority Records studios; he was eventually caught in Vegas and surrendered.

He was released from prison in December 2004, but while incarcerated, he filed a civil complaint against Priority Records in a Los Angeles County Superior Court, demanding he be released from his recording contract due to breach of contract by the label.

He claimed label had breached specific acts of his recording contract and is citing emotional distress. He was seeking damages in excess of $5 million dollars (see "").

Nah, Babygrande will fuck him up. They'll do the same shit they did to Jus, to him. Plus, if he's on BG, I'm almost positive he won't get dope production, they'll set him up with like 4 beats from the shitmaster Agallah and get the rest of the beats from no-name internet producers. Personally, I think dude should go to Hiero Imperium Recordings, may not be his exact style of Hip-Hop, but at least he'll stay westcoast, get dope production, most likely have some dope guest verses from labelmates, and have the freedom that he wouldn't have on BG or any other 'undergound' label. I know not everyone agrees with that, but fuck 'em! They all like cock anyway, Peace niggas!
