Is It Considered Freestyled ..

If you completely think of all your bars and spit that shit ? Kinda like Jay-Z and Biggie. I was just wondering cause i know they do that when they hear a beat go off, they just let the words come to them in shit. What y'all think ?

Or is it off-the-spur sorta shit strictly ?

It really depends on who you ask, like most underground heads consider a Freestyle to be somthing in its purest form, like it HAS to come off the top of the head at that exact secdon (like what Juice and Supernat are known for). Then on the flip side you have people who consider freestyles a hot 16 bars that you wrote to fit any occiasion, somthing thats not really apart of a song just somthing to spit when you need it. I wouldnt really consider what Jigga and them do freestyling though, they just dont write the shit down, they let it come to them and build the song in their heads. They aint just going in and making it up as they go (well maybe Weezy is. that would explain a lot).

Alright, i see. I was wondering though cause for a bit i stopped writing to work on producing and when i'd produce i'd probably have some lyrics come off the top then i'd let some other relavent things come to my head and build with what i got. And lately i've been adapting to that sorta stuff.

Anyways, Props for the knowledge though.

Most emcees do that. It's good promotion, when you've written a verse or a 16, you kick it on a radio station as a freestyle before recording it in the booth. It's simply good promotion, plus when they doin' it on the radio station it's new and after the album drops most people consider it new shit cause it has an all new beat, more verses, etc. So shit ain't really that annoying.

but I consider a freestyle 2 of the following

1) completely off the dome

2) something you think of up in a given period of time right before you spit it out WITHOUT writing anything down. Like keeping it in your head and spitting it later on is considered freestyling to me on account of it hasn't been said already and it's still at it's rawest point.

No, it's true, most emcees do that. Both underground AND mainstream. Shit is fact, they gain more promotion that way, it's just common business sense.
