I don't know why I did it. Maybe because I've been smoking a lot lately. I've been working a lot, and needed an excuse to get drunk. Who knows? All I know is that I spent 30 dollars this week on a ticket to see the Game at the Rave, which is a sweet place in Milwaukee which has a concert and a bar in the very same room. It's where I saw RA the Rugged Man. It's where I saw The Roots, its where I saw Talib Kweli and the Pharcyde. And for some reason, I decided to sully all of those memories by seeing the Game there. The show was going to be tonight. I checked this morning to see if it was sold out, hoping I could scalp the ticket and go to a bar instead. Turns out the show was cancelled due to artist illness (probably the first time Game's been called TOO ILL)
Since I spent money on the ticket, I was understandably a little upset. After dealing with the Rave people, I'm not so much upset anymore.

I already had a free Roots ticket (not entirely free, I have to buy two expensive ass drinks at the show, but that's better than spending the money on the ticket and getting NO booze) Since the underground scene is so bad in Milwaukee, I was able to trade my Game ticket for a ticket to see Tech N9ne next Friday and Mr. Lif on April 13, while still getting 4 bucks back. So now instead of getting drunk and hearing ONE BLOOD, I get to go to see the Roots, Tech N9ne AND Mr. Lif, all for under 40 dollars.

I fucking rock.

lucky, I guess. Milwaukee is a pretty big city, but has a shitty underground scene. That means that the acts come here, but not many people go. The Kweli/Roots/Pharcyde show was part of a tour that went everywhere (though Common replaced Pharcyde at most shows I think) but here in Milwaukee, the tickets were eleven bucks.

I saw Common this summer at a free stage at Summerfest. The RA ticket was fifteen bucks. The Game ticket was expensive (like 32 bucks) but I got to exchange it for a Mr. Lif ticket (11 dollars) and a Tech N9ne ticket (15 bucks) and still get some money back.

but I'm not REALLY sure how lucky that makes me- because the REALLY big shows (like halfway underground/halfway mainstream) aren't big enough to come to our big venues, and aren't small enough to come to the small ones. I have to go to Chicago and pay top dollar to see something like Rakim, or the Wu-Tang/Rhymefest tour, or Mos Def. I can see big mainstream artists or underground people who haven't blown yet, but those dope middle ground artists don't come around. The Roots were a good exception, but they're dope like that anyways.
