I'm the biggest Jay-Z hater on this forum and even I think it's ridiculous to say he's 'biting' lyrics. He isn't actually stealing them, he's just quoting them. These people have been around rap music forever and they're fans of the music just as much as we are, meaning they listen to the same music we also listen to. They know all of those lyrics and remember them, because they've heard them like a thousand times. When they 'steal' such lyrics, they haven't been actually searching on for a good punchline, but they just have that Kool G Rap, BDK or Big L punchline memorized they would gladly pay tribute to. Just like when Jay makes a joint like '99 Problems' he isn't actually biting Ice-T, but he rather just modified it and molded it into something more original to apply his own style on. Rappers do this all the time, I'm suprised I actually have to explain this.

i 100% agree with you.. take "Slick Rick - Children's Story" as an example. a LOT of rappers took lines from that legendary track (Eminem, Mos Def..). that is NOT biting, that's just paying tribute as JAF said and it's making the track even more greater

I don't mean to be patronizing, because I think you probably know a considerable lot about Hip-Hop, but maybe you should listen to more old school artists. I think you would be suprised how alot of the newer artists 'bited' alot of those old school lyrics.
