Joe Buhdha Presents Klashnekoff - Lionheart: Tussle With The Beast

5 years after bursting onto the scene with the single 'Daggo Mentality' the wait is finally over as Klashnekoff releases his first official album pairing up with producer Joe Buhdha. Label politics have limited Klashnekoff releases to a compilation of his released singles, a mixtape with DJ Skully and most recently his crew Terra Firma's mixtape. 'Lionheart: Tussle With The Beast' might be the most anticipated UK Hip Hop album ever, certainly the most anticipated in recent times, but the question is was it worth the wait?

The first song see's Klashnekoff calling for a revolution. Rapping over a soulful beat provided by Buhdha, K-Lash shows of his lyrical ability while delivering a hard hitting message. "We used to be proud to be black and positive / But now we scream loud about crack and hollow tips / It's all science, mathematics and polo-tricks / Sold us a cocktail of lies and we swallowed it". The album then moves on to the first single 'My Life' where K-Lash spits introverted rhymes about inner city living. 'Terrorise The City' features guest appearances from former Terra Firma member Kyza and hip hop legend Kool G. Rap. Buhdha blesses us with a monster of a beat but it's Kyza who steals the show with his trademark flow. On the next track 'Refuse To Die' Klashnekoff takes the familiar route of introducing some Jamaican flavour into his music with the reggae style beat and chorus.

'Questions' has Klashenokoff questioning the motives of certain decisions people make. Here K-Lash also takes aim at studio gangsters. "Are you the real deal or do you feel a fraud? / Spitting them lines about a life that was never yours". The next track Sayonara has Terra Firma in full effect with Scriblah and former member Kyza joining K-Lash for a braggart rap anthem. "Move like a army of arms house yardies / And march in your yard masked looking like Iraqi's". 'Bit By Bit' has Klashnekoff rapping tales of urban paranoia over a menacing beat. The album's next track 'Rest Of Our Lives (Black Rose Part 2)' see's Klashnekoff getting personal and spitting powerful lyrics about his releationship with his mother including tales of how he saw his mother begging for her life at knife point and how they became distant as he grew older.

'Can't You See' has K-Lash rhyme about the harsh time's we're living in where lives get taken over the smallest of things. "Where bre's tuck tools in their waist before they leave their gates / it's not a joke i know blokes who got hand grenades / and who lie awake thinking how to take your life away / night or day bre's getting popped over hearsay". The next track 'Two Guns Blazing' was released along with the single 'My Life' and has K-Lash trading verses with Nottingham rapper Mr .45 over another very dope beat provided by Buhdha. 'Bun Dem' see's Capleton join K-Lash to create an infectiously catchy samba anthem (complete with whistle blowing and steel band). The album comes to an end with 'Make Ps' featuring Terra Firma member Scriblah for one last street narrative and giving you the feeling that the hype is real and Klashnekoff has delivered.

The one thing about the album that im critical of is there's a few recycled verses that i recognise from mixtape tracks but that aside im loving this album. Klashnekoff has cemented his place at the top of the UK scene with this release, and the rest of the world should take notice. The album is released on February 26, do yourself a favour and go cop it.

If you mean does he sound English then yes but he doesnt have as strong an accent as some UK rappers and he definitely isnt a grime artist who you cant understand a word they say.

Speaking on his next album 'SoundKlash' ...
