Busdriver - Fear Of A Black Tangent

This review will be very different from my other reviews, this is because Busdriver and his work is very very hard to describe correctly, you may come away from this none the wiser about this man or his album after reading this but I will do my very best.

Busdriver can be best described as an off the wall mad man on the mic, and thats putting it kindly. Busdriver is one of the single most insane MCs ever to touch the mic, even more insane than ODB or Kool Keith and this insanity will certainly take time to adjust to for everyone out there.

Many regard Fear of a Black Tangent as Busdriver's strongest release and I must say that I enjoyed it an awful lot myslef, but this is some one speaking after being very very prepared of what to find on this album. I have to stress this - Busdriver is not the type of artist you will just jump straight into and love from the first track, it will take time to grow familar with his style and equally as long to learn how to follow his lyrics (This album helpfully provides the lyrics in the booklet though which is a help).

The hooks are immense from start to finish and the song structure is unbelievable. Busdriver is the perfect example of an MC that could achieve mainstrem success,the only problem being his reluctance to stop rapping about camera shy pandas. Don't get it confused - Busdriver is a nerd.

The production is fresh and there is not a bad beat on the whole album. Busdriver's zany flow is infectious and it will grow on you more and more with each listen. Fans of Project Blowed will know exactly what to expect from the L.A. native on this album, others be very aware though - Busdriver is an aquired taste. Personally I love him and his abstract music but some people may be better off listening to a few album samplers on websties before running of to buy this album.
