info on Nas and Damiens album.......

A press release went out today about Nas and Damian Marley’s upcoming collaborative album, Distant Relatives, due out June 23rd. It looks like Esco is going to channel his character in Belly and take it back to Africa. This might actually turn out pretty great.

The album features the signature instrumentation and musicianship of Marley with the hard hitting beats and lyrics of Nas. Throughout the course of their musical careers, the duo has taught each other and always admired each other’s style. Since first meeting in 1996 the two artists have shared a mutual respect and camaraderie that was most recently showcased on “Road to Zion,” a standout track from Damian’s critically acclaimed album, Welcome to Jamrock. After having such a positive experience working together, they have now joined forces again for Distant Relatives.

The album title refers not only to the bond of Nas and Damian, but the bond to their African ancestry, which inspired the album both musically and lyrically. “Africa is the backbone of the world and the foundation of everything and Africans are in a situation where they need help more than anywhere else,” notes Damian Marley. “We know there are dire situations here in America but when you look at America—with public libraries and free education—these are not opportunities most Africans have. It’s a completely different scale of trying to help people. As humans beings, we’re part of a human family.”

Nas agrees, “As an American, we have so much even in a so-called recession that a neighborhood like Queensbridge or Red Hook is Beverly Hills compared to the way people are living in Nigeria, Sierre Leone, and Ghana,” says the emcee. “So obviously if we making records with that theme, there’s gonna be things I want to build on. I think Africa has a lot to teach us.”

The two will also tour behind the project, with international dates to be announced shortly.

I'll be in the New York concert. Lineup is kinda weak at the bottom, but I'll go just for KRS, Rae/RZA, & La Coka Nostra.

Does anyone know when Tickets go on sale? I'm prob gonna get a buncha my friends to go. They are all more of the mainstream fans and can't take most of my music so going here might open them up a little.. plus slaughterhouse >

I concur. Shit is pretty disappointing. Too many mediocre or less than that, acts, not enough quality heads. Hopefully the "more to be announced" sets will be doper. As of now, my money is stayin' in my pocket.

y'all are some whiners. I will be getting my ticket VIP first day it goes on sale. to see Nas and Marley perform together would be worth the tickets already, I'd say, plus Common and Talib and the Roots who I have seen are are all dope as fuck live, plus to get a chance to see RZA, Raekwon, and KRS... there's no way that's not worth it, especially if the tickets are similar in price to last year. Sure I'd like to see Tech again (though ILLogic hates him anyways) and some other more underground stuff. But this is a pretty fucking impressive lineup for a touring festival.

I've never seen budden live but I've seen videos of him live and he sounds terrible. Doesn't seem to know how to use his voice in concert. always looses it like 5 songs in. But i don't know about the rest.

Crooked looks like a beast live with all the hype he has... same for Joell. And Budden is a comical dude, he's always makin' cracks on everyone in the group ... so I have a feeling the rest of the crew will bring out the best in Budden if w/e you say holds true. Royce is a vet anyway, so him killin' it is a given.

Word the fuck up. Those "more to be announced" performers usually don't hold their weight of anticipation. Don't really understand how the RTB lineup can decrease in quality in just a year's span. Last year, we saw ATCQ and Nas headline, along with acts such as Rakim, Ghostface, Raekwon, De La Soul, etc. Don't get me wrong, the lineup definitely does have its upside (Nas, Common, The Roots) but overall doesn't do much for me.

@ Nok, one of the main reasons I'd go is to see Slaughterhouse. However, they probably won't get anything longer than a 20 minute set. That gives the group enough time to perform "Move On", "Wack MC's", and random ass freestyles here and there. Way too short of a set for such a dope group of MC's to perform.
