you choose the pen in the middle of the three things in the toolbar left (the one with the path in the background) now click around your thing you want to cut and hold an pull to make curves and when you closed the path right click make selection and ok now ctrl+c or +x and have fun wit it

Dont do that. Use the pen tool much nicer. You'll get better in time, it hard to get used to if yur new 2 PS.
