NEW YORK -- Billy Wagner will undergo surgery this week on his left elbow, and will miss one year, a Mets official confirmed early Monday afternoon.

An MRI exam taken Monday revealed that Wagner has suffered a torn MCL in his left elbow, requiring surgery.

Wagner, 37, had 27 saves and a 2.30 ERA for the Mets this season, but went on the disabled list on Aug. 5 with left elbow inflammation. The Mets originally expected him to return this week, but Wagner had to cut short a simulated game Sunday after feeling discomfort in the elbow.

Recently acquired Luis Ayala has been closing games in Wagner's absence.

so next year K Rod will be a met, no biggie. They been winnin without him. People have blown up the bullpen problems. They haven't been as bad as the media makes it. If you look at the numbers you'll say they're horrible, but it's just cause when the bullpen has a bad game they all look horrible. But lately they have been great. I don't think they gave a run in the last 7 games or so

the bullpen has picked it up as of late...ayala has done a good job for the most part...no biggie cuz we will sign k-rod next year and that will be end of that
