Joell Ortiz is the name of the newest addition to Dr.Dre's Aftermath roster. The Brooklyn born rapper has been compared to Big Pun, not only because of his Latin origin, but also because of his voice and flow, check out his Big Pun tribute on his page.

"So far it's been great and I'm glad people are feeling me now but I know I have a long way to go before I'm running with the big boys like Jay-Z or 50 Cent. That's where I'm trying to reach, nothing less", Ortiz said in a statement.

Ortiz told XXL about how the deal was arranged: "I actually just got a phone call in May that Dre wanted to fly me out, that he had heard some songs through a friend of mine, Karen, up at Interscope. I think she had hooked it up or whatever. But he flew me out and it was crazy. It was like 10 or 15 minutes of me playing songs. He was just like, “Yo, I’m feeling you.” I’m like, “Yo, what the dilly, yo?” He’s like, “Yo, you wanna be Aftermath?” I’m like, “You’re damn right I wanna be Aftermath!”

In related Aftermath news, the west coast's rising star Bishop Lamont, is featured on three songs from Black Ty's new mix-tape "Ghetto Royalty". The songs are titled "Change The World" which has circulated in the underground before and also features Tyrese... as well as "Pop Bottles" and "Beat The System".

Bishop has also recently released the street song "Up & Down" featuring Glasses Malone & Chevy Jones and produced by Scott Storch. The song is a buzz single that'll start promotion for Bishop's Aftermath debut "The Reformation" scheduled for Summer of 2007.

Akon scores big with his new single, “Smack That,” featuring Eminem with the #1 Most Added song at Rhythmic and Crossover this week at radio. In addition to the #1 status, on Akon’s myspace page (myspace.com/akon), “Smack That” has been listened to over 1 million times in just two weeks. His sophomore release, Konvicted, is set to be in stores on November 21.

Konvicted, almost entirely produced by Akon, features guest appearances by aforementioned Eminem (Em produced “Smack That”), Akon’s artist T-Pain, Snoop Dogg and Styles P. 'Smack That' Premieres on Yahoo! Music on September 22.

Eve is currently working on her new album with production by Dr. Dre, Scott Storch, Swizz Beatz, Pharrell, Cool & Dre, Polow. Travis Barker is featured on drums and there are also some great hush hush features. Be sure to keep checking with for more info.
