Pick something that is not so widely done. Originality will not only score you points but will also help you gain knowledge. Do some thing crazy like furniture and the English influence. Choose an author and read about him. Dont be afraid to do some reading. do a report on something current like the bailout plan or the electoral college. All of these would not only be fun to do but would also help you learn.
