ehhh...idunno I think Canada is slightly more free on some things

but otherwise no country is really free at all...

I can't drive a car until I'm 16 I can't vote till I'm 18, can't drink till 19 can't gamble till 19 either...(in Canada too if I wanted to go to Vegas I'd have to wait till 21 before I could gamble even though I can do it here in Ontario...

everybody always boasts that America is the land of the free..but thats total bullshit...

like I've said before just cuz America isn't as bad as somewhere like Africa or the Middle East in terms of freedom...it doesn't mean were totally free...

thats like saying a person thats 300 pounds isn't fat just cuz another person you know is 600 pounds...

After all the new terror laws then Fuck no. Americans have the illusion of being free but couldnt be further from it.

Your house can be searched at any time whether yoou are there or not, you can be arrested and detained indefinetly without charge ....etc

ONE OF THEM YES! its not FREE no country is, if a country was the freeest then it wouldnt last very long,.. however you can do whatever you want (within reason), be whatever you want (within reason) and start whatever you want (within reason).. untill we visit a country like afghanistan where girls werent allowed to go to school, women not allowed to leave the house, or saudi arabia where women arent allowed to drive, or iran where your internet, phone or any other communication usage can be turned of in an instance if you dont support the goverment, or north korea where you have absolutely no rights and your forced into slave labor then we will never know just how lucky and damn free we are,..

we have laws that most of us agree to, and a judicial system that works most of the time, with everyone given the right to a fair trial... it might be flawed at times.. but i would sure take it over most other countrys anyday

If a country was completely free, it would be lawless. Everyone has the freedom to do w/e they want whenever they want without repercussion from the law/government.

we are'nt the free'est in that sense cuzz u cud smoke weed and get ho's in the netherlands

Depends on what you understand by the word "freedom". If it's doing what the fuck you want (no limits) then we absolutely not free, we're limited by the laws. No, I don't think America is the freest country in the world.

i wouldn't say it's the most totalitarian.. but almost every government in history has been somewhat totalitarian. the modern US government is more intrusive than the British government which a revolution was fought to be independent from. the US actually ranks around 8th in the world in overall freedom according to the freedom index.. which is pretty good but not what most people would think.

but i've posed this question before and no one has been able to give me an acceptable answer: can you name one thing or segment in society that the government is not involved in somehow?

the media is somewhat free... but the government does have influence over the media. the banks are certainly not free, the federal reserve is the opposite of freedom.. it is central planning.

no one would argue that we aren't more free than north korea or iran.. but that doesn't really make us free.. just less oppressed.

and media isn't free...media is largely controlled...for example why do you think you have to go to the Youtube to see how the Soldiers in Iraq are treating the Iraqis...its cuz the American government doesn't want its army to look like assholes...so they don't print it in newspapers or have it on T.V...

Like it was said before if a country was really "free" it would be lawless so that means if I dont agree with you I could kill you on the spot

I think America is one of the most free places if not the most free due to the fact that I could cuss out obama or start a picket against him and not get in trouble unless it get's out of control lol try that in places like N Korea you'll be killed

I guess people that live in the USA always had it good so they dont know what bad it's kinda like a rich person mad cause they can't go out to eat but they got a fridge full of food compared to a poor person starving just grateful for something to eat that night

That's a horrible way to look at things in my view. What you're basically saying is you should just be happy with your government because you are more free than some other countries which aren't free at all and are in fact basically dictatorships.

A country can be free and still have laws. And to your assertion that you could cuss out Obama with no repercussion or have a picket wherever you want, that's just plain wrong. You have to have a permit from the government in most places to have a a picket, and if you were cussing out Obama at one of his rally's or something I guarantee the secret service would be asking you a lot of questions and escorting you out promptly then you'd probly end up on the list of domestic terrorists under the patriot act.
