Default a little Dr. Dre appreciation

a little Dr. Dre appreciation

so every once in a while i listen to Dr. Dre's The Watcher from the album 2001, featuring Eminem & Knoc-Turn'al (on the chorus).

And I've always loved the song and the beat.

But I just listened to it again on my earbuds - i think i usually listen to it in the car.

I already knew the lyrics....but listening to that beat again. Wow, such a great track.

Starts off with the drums and that bassline, and the lyrics start off right away as well. I love how it's just that single note of that horn that repeats throughout.
Then the strings start.....but they're plucked. Dr. Dre is the king.
Then he keeps throwing in different stuff, the piano comes in, etc.

Such an amazing track, I have the instrumental version of this album. I'm sure I could go through each one feel the same way about the tracks.

But The Watcher is such an amazing song. Beat, lyrics, everything.

Things just aint the same for gangstas
Cops is anxious to put niggas in handcuffs
They wanna hang us, see us dead, enslave us
Keep us trapped in the same place we raised in
Then they wonder why we act so outrageous
Run around stressed out and pull out gauges
Cause every time you let the animal out cages
It's dangerous to people who look like strangers
But now we got a new era of gangsters
Hustlers and youngsters living amongst us
Looking at us now calling us busters
Cant help but reminisce back when it was us
Nigga we started the gangsta shit
And this the motherfucking thanks I get?
It's funny how time flies
I'm just having fun watching it fly by

Is it just me or is this song seriously underrated and under appreciated? Maybe, it's just me, but this is one of the greatest rap songs ever.

The Chronic, 2001, and I can't wait for Detox. Dre on the beats with help from Melman, Scott Storch, Focus etc. Additional writing and/or featuring by Snoop Dogg, Hittman, Eminem, Knoc-Turn'al, Jay-Z, T.I. and who knows who else.

The man knows how to make great music.

Anyway I just wanted to say that. I figured someone on this board could relate better than anyone I know.
