Hey Everyone!

I been getting questions from different people about what equipment I use and how I mix my vocals. Obviously, I'm not a selfish person so I am willing to help however I can with your audio needs.

I am NOT a pro but I do have experience with this. So let me list some things I've been involved in.

- Head of Audio/Visual department for 4 years.
- Worked in 3 different studios
- Been recording music and mixing my own vocals for 6 years now
- Worked side by side with an audio engineer who graduated from the Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences in Arizona


Again I am NOT a pro, but whatever knowledge I do have I am willing to share. If I don't have an answer, I will consult different people I know and find an answer for you.

Yeah. I'd rather them ask me all the questions in one thread than asking me in a bunch of other ones.

How do I fix the vocals so they come out of both speakers? And whats the best way to save a unfinished song?

save it as .wav...............uuuhhhh...window pcm or something..i forget...but i use it.....

if youre in cool edit, just save it as the cool edit file type. all your vocals will save as a .wav file

I used to use Audacity all the time.


Anyway to start, what kind of equipment are you using?


If you're using something cheap like a headset mic or a little $5 computer mic, you want to start with getting proper gain levels. That means change the input level of the mic so that it doesn't clip (or go in the red). That should give you a good base to start with.

One thing you want to do is EQ your vocals. Yeah it takes time but it's worth it and that's where you get most of your mixing. Some EQ'ing can take hours. But you want to perfect your art so put in your time.

Another way you can go about editing is running compression on your vocals. This takes all the soundwaves and gives a particular section a median volume level. So it turns the low parts up and the high parts down to reach a certain volume.

It really doesn't sound too bad. Here are some easy things to do to help with your sound quality:

1) Highlight your vocals and go to effects. Then click compressor. Make sure that the ratio is at 2:1. And it should be fine.

2) EQ your vocals. Don't use presets. Just listen and adjust.

3) Highlight vocals again and go to effects. Scroll down the list and click on the first Gverb. Mess with the options and find the right amount of reverb. You don't want it to echo. You just want it to add a bit more thickness to your vocals.
