Yes back in the day a "diss rap" was a battle rap. emcees that did that were battle rappers and pretty much everybody that rapped was a battle rapper. The only reason you don't get it is because today there are emcees out that have never battled before...nothing wrong with it. That's just how it is now.

Back in the day emcees would plan a battle...the ones that got the opportunity to record and distribute theirs were doing the same thing...they just had a deal.

battling on a wax is a part of battling. Besides for live battles...emcees used to set up the freakin' battle and write the raps before the battle anyway. Many battles were just recorded and never live...dudes didn't always spit in front of a crowd. Lots of oldschool battles were emcees spitting over breaks at their pad. Not pressed or distributed other than being duplicated and handed out in the neighborhood. That evolved into making songs as "rap" become more popular.

^yall act like its so hard to switch from battle rappers into mainstream...if you actually "battle"(which means freestyled verses) you could easily transition....if you "pre-write" battle.....you have a harder time adjusting cuz your used to talking about shooting some1 or selling more drug Ect. and punchlines instead of solid verses and whole concepts and making a good song...
