question on powering off iphone 3g!

well on my iphone 3g i want to turn off my iphone but the button on the top right dont work i hold it for five or more secs and nothin i cant slide to power off so im on here asking if theirs another way to power off my iphone is their some type off app or something plz let me kno it would help me out alot!!!

Or take the battery out.
