Rihanna Owns U.K. Singles, Album Charts

June 11, 2007, 10:10 AM ET

Rihanna was top of the class on the new U.K. sales charts published last night (June 10), with a fourth week at No. 1 for the single "Umbrella" and a new entry at No. 1 for the album "Good Girl Gone Bad" (Def Jam).

The Barbadian R&B chanteuse held off competition from Mutya Buena and Calvin Harris to top the singles list again, and outsold new albums by Biffy Clyro, the Twang, Paul McCartney and others. "Umbrella" has now sold 181,000 copies in its four weeks at the top, and was well ahead of Buena's "Real Girl" (Fourth and Broadway/Universal Island), at No. 2 for the second week.

Scottish DJ Harris climbed 9-3 with "The Girls" (Columbia) and Gym Class Heroes' "Cupid's Chokehold"/"Breakfast in America" (Decaydance/Fueled by Ramen) rebounded 6-4 in its ninth chart week. Reverend and the Makers, an indie electro outfit fronted by Sheffield-based Jon McClure, jumped 12-8 with "Heavyweight Champion of the World" (Wall of Sound) and Enrique Iglesias vaulted 28-9 with "Do You Know (The Ping Pong Song)."

The album chart contained seven new entries in the top 10, with "Good Girl Gone Bad" selling 53,000 copies to outdo Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro at No. 2. The Twang's "Love It When I Feel Like This" (B Unique/Polydor), which contains last week's No. 8 hit "Either Way," entered at No.3.

McCartney's "Memory Almost Full," his first release for Starbucks' Hearmusic label, arrived at a creditable No. 5, improving on the No. 10 debut and peak of 2005's "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard" and matching the peak of 2003's live set "Back in the World."

Dizzee Rascal's "Maths & English" (XL Recordings) made a No. 7 start, Marilyn Manson's "Eat Me Drink Me" (Interscope) arrived at No. 8 and Buena's full-length solo debut, "Real Girl," opened at No. 10.

"Umbrella" also holds the pan-European singles chart crown after a 5-1 move on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles, while Linkin Park's "Minutes to Midnight" (Machine Shop/Warner Bros.) is in a third week atop the European Top 100 Albums chart.
