I'm ready to reclaim hip hop crown after Kanye West disgraced himself, says 50 Cent

IT'S been two years since 50 Cent claimed he would retire from music if Kanye West beat him to the No.1 album spot.

But here is the man-mountain rapper, born Curtis Jackson, back with a new album and film, Dead Man Running.

He lost the initial battle as Kanye's Graduation beat his Curtis by nearly 170,000 copies in America.

Yet 50 Cent, known as Fiddy, has kept his reputation as a ghetto gangster done good while Kayne has continued to ruin his.

Last month Kanye acted like a brat when he burst on stage at the MTV VMAs as Taylor Swift was accepting her award to say Beyonce should have won best female video instead.

Like many, Fiddy was incensed by the way his rival acted and wonders if Kanye will be able to recover his public image.

The rapper has a 13-year-old son and a step-daughter of 18 - a year older than Taylor, which brought out the paternal side in Fiddy.

He said: "Taylor is 17. She could be my child. Kanye may not have grown up in the space where you could have a child that early, but where I'm from, it could have happened. I could have a child her age right now.

"So it makes me feel different about the whole scenario. I don't think he had that in mind. I think he was just saying what he felt as an actual artist, and it's a mistake. He's paying for it now.

"I don't know how much damage it does, but it looks pretty bad from here.

"What do you do after that to make people sympathetic to you?"

And here comes the killer punch that Fiddy has waited two years for.

"Kanye was the underdog coming around under 50 Cent, and now he's becoming this guy who has so much arrogance that it's cool to hate Kanye West right now," Fiddy said.

"How do you change that? With another hit record?"

But Fiddy doesn't stop there. He sees Kanye's bratty attitude as something more endemic.

At the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2006, Kanye did the same thing, crashing the stage when Justice Vs Simian, directed by Jeremie Rozan and Martial Schmeltz, won best video for We Are Your Friends, claiming he should have won because his nomination, Touch The Sky, "cost $1million and had Pamela Anderson in it".

Kanye wasn't slapped down there.

"There are more people at fault for his actions," Fiddy said - perhaps feeling embarrassed at his own behaviour after he stormed the stage at the Grammys in 2004 when Evanescence beat him to the best new artist award.

"He's cried before and they have pampered him by giving him trophies. That makes him feel like he can do something and people will adjust to it," he said.

"You have to develop the right, if you feel like you have the right to get up and say what you think at that point.

"If you win an award that you feel someone else in your category deserves, you show all the style in the world by saying, 'I really think they deserved this award so I'm going to give this to them'. It's your choice what you say in your acceptance speech. But for you to get up in the middle of someone else's..."

Fiddy has had lots of feuds, from Lil Wayne and The Game to Ja Rule and Sean Combs, but with Kanye it will just run and run.

Maybe it's because he didn't win that chart battle. He claimed he didn't retire after their 2007 race because Curtis was No.1 in Europe and therefore did outsell Kanye.

But he didn't go to No.1 in the US and it still rankles.

Fiddy just can't stop slagging Kanye and when his joint tour with Lady Gaga (now cancelled) was announced, Fiddy called it "the gay tour" and questioned his rival's sexuality, although he later apologised, claiming his words had been taken out of context.

Fiddy is back in control and bigger than ever with an estimated fortune of £500million.

Not bad for a boy born in New York's tough Queens and who began drug dealing at 12 during the Eighties crack epidemic.

His near brush with death has also gone into rap gangsta folklore. While trying to leave drug dealing behind he was shot at and struck by nine bullets in 2000.

He was hit in the hand (a round hit his right thumb and came out of his little finger), arm, hip, both legs, chest and left cheek. He spent nearly two weeks in hospital and the face wound resulted in a swollen tongue, the loss of a wisdom tooth and a slur in his speech.

Getting back to rapping, he was taken under Eminem's wing and 2003's debut Get Rich Or Die Tryin' and 2005's follow-up The Massacre sold more than 21 million copies combined.

He also branched out to become a label boss of G-Unit Records and launched G-Unit clothing and trainers.

He tried his hand at acting too, appearing in the semi-autobiographical film Get Rich Or Die Tryin' in 2005, the Iraq War Home Of The Brave in 2006, Righteous Kill in 2008 and now UK gangster film Dead Man Running, in which he plays a loan shark and stars alongside Danny Dyer, Brenda Blethyn and Monet Mazur.

The latter film is produced by Ashley Cole and Rio Ferdinand, and although Fiddy admits he doesn't know much about football he claims the England players know about the "street".

He said: "The story, about a small-time businessman escaping the clutches of a loan shark, is one I know and understand."

It's a far fry from his lifestyle these days as Fiddy currently lives in the former mansion of Mike Tyson in Connecticut.

"Trust me, I've had every obstacle in front of me possible to not make it to the point that I'm at now," he insists when his nine-year success is laid before him.

"I run on my own energy enough to believe in myself, to stay persistent and consistent with what my goals are, while not having a lot around to support it.

"So when people mistake my confidence for arrogance, I don't blame them, because they don't understand.

"Everyone has an opinion and because I'm in a public space, I'm subjected to those opinions and in exchange for not worrying about the bills, I become public property. I'm fine with that."

Now what's important is his son, Marquise, his burgeoning film career and, of course, his music.

He is back on November 23 with his fourth album Before I Self Destruct, which was actually planned before Fiddy's 2007 album Curtis.

So what happened?

"I wanted to have more time to create this. So I put the Curtis record out and I continued writing this the whole time."

Sorry Kanye, it doesn't look like Fiddy was ever going to be beaten by you.

Dead Man Running is out today.
