50 Cent, Jim Jones & Lloyd Banks "Kill The Record Labels" In New Doc
50 Cent, Jim Jones, Lloyd Banks and more are featured in the new Kill The Record Labels documentary examining the war between record companies and artists making profits through mixtapes. The project features a wide variety of regional hip-hop entertainers. Included in the film are 50 Cent, Bun B, Maino, Young Buck, Juelz Santana, Lil Scrappy, Jim Jones, DJ Drama, Lloyd Banks, Chamillionaire, S One, Red Cafe, Green Lantern, DJ Vlad, DJ Rob E Rob, Kid Carpi, DJ Lazy K, DJ Thoro and Mike Jones. (Press Release) Director Charles Rand has expressed his motivation for creating the documentary. "Hip-Hop music has become the voice of the urban community," Rand said in a statement. "Artists like 50 Cent and Bun B make music about real life situations that happen in their neighborhoods. Generally, artists don't make music about what goes on inside the music business. I made this film to give DJs, artist, and producers a voice. A great documentary is informative and entertaining. I spent alot of time and energy to make sure the audience walks away from this film with a better understanding of issues that affect hip hop culture and music." (Keep It Trill) A brief synopsis on the film shines a negative light on the record companies. For decades hip-hop has been controlled by the record companies. They invest millions and profit billions from global cassette, CD and now ringtone sales. Music moguls afford a lifestyle comparable to what we see on "MTV Cribs." Eventually hip-hop artists would adapt the record company formula and start to strategically promote and market their own music. This has created a conflict inside the industry. The record companies, in conjunction with the Recording Industry Assocation of America (RIAA), have declared war. Offices have been raided, mom and pop stores have been closed and many have been arrested. Hip-Hop artists, deejays and producers have decided that the only way to survive in the music business is to Kill The Record Labels. DJ Drama, who was raided by the FBI for selling his mixtapes in 2007, was recently hit with a lawsuit over Dedication mixtapes, featuring Lil Wayne, by Cash Money Records. "Plaintiff Cash Money Records Inc., by its attorneys, Goldberg & Rimberg PLLC and The Law Firm of Candance C. Carponter, P.C., for its Complaint against defendant, BCD Music Group, Inc., Tyree C. Simmons a.k.a. DJ Drama, Cinque Productions, Inc., Aphilliates Music Group, Makin Moves Entertainment and Frank Nino," the suit reads. Filed in New York in February 2009, a jury trial has been demanded with defendants having 35 days to answer the complaint. The suit names mixtape albums Happy Father's Day, When the North and South Collide, Dedication (Chopped & Screwed), Dedication 2 and Dedication 3. (Court Documents) Kill The Record Labels is currently available for purchase, Source: sohh were Drake? Or Lil wayne Would made da DOC WACK Last edited by 13ubba; 04-15-2009 at 07:02 PM. |

I think everybody know the majors fucking up hip hop albums once a artist sell a certain amount. I don't know why but I see all those artists leaving they labels first chance they get, especially 50 if thisis50 gets big enough to sell cds. Jim Jones rolled the dice with Columbia and it's looking like he should have stayed indie.

aint it cash money record label doing that? plus he the artist and not making money of the mixtapes, are u sayin the label shouldnt get the profits, the artist shouldnt get the profits, BUT the DJs should?...... That sounds like a worse situation to me, from some profits from the labels to none from the DJs

Eventhough I ain't a fan of Wayne or Drake I gotta mention that they get more props from other rappers than Banks, Yayo or 50 at the moment...
