Each month, one lucky rock star phones Blender HQ for seven days straight, just to, you know, share. Now on the line: Hip-hop capitalist 50 Cent.

Day 1
September 29, 2:06 p.m.
50 rings us from Detroit, where he’s enjoying a working sleepover with BFF Eminem.

“It’s been a long day, man. Last night I was up late on the phone with Scott Storch, mixing my new album. Then I woke up all groggy-eyed at 6:45 to catch my flight to Detroit. No jet this time—I flew commercial. I look at an airplane like a taxi: As long as it gets me where I need to be, I’ll sit my ass in coach. On the plane, I was finishing a screenplay I’ve been writing, inspired by one of my old lawyers. He was a sociopath. I have consultants helping me with the legal terms, but otherwise it’s all me.

“Today Em and I spent the day in the studio. Dre sent us a bunch of beats, so we’re just going through them all, *picking out who wants what. Now I’m chilling at Em’s house. I stay here whenever I’m in Detroit. I got my own room and everything. Em, come say hello to Blender! He’s in the other room right now. Maybe later.

“It’s good to hang out with him—the last time I saw him was about a month ago, when I was shooting a movie with Val Kilmer and Sharon Stone. But we communicate on the phone a few times a week. When you’re as successful as I am, it’s tough to have a real friend relationship—everyone lets you get away with being an asshole, ’cause you got money. But when I’m being an asshole, Em will call me an asshole. That’s a good friend.”

DAY 2
September 30, 2:05 p.m.
50 calls from the Palace of Auburn Hills, home of the Detroit Pistons, where he just finished a shootaround with the team.

“Check this out: I’m with Em at the Pistons’ training camp! He tore his meniscus a while ago, so he’s been *working out with their strength coach, getting back in shape. He’s cool now—we just played one-on-one. I murdered him. He tried to blame his knee, but I think it had more to do with my *crossover.

“I shot around with the team a little. How’d I do? King of the schoolyard, baby! Just don’t tell Rip Hamilton I said that. Ha! But really, I’m better at boxing. I’m a southpaw—my left hook is like a lesson from Jesus.

“Last night me and Em watched the Mosley fight from Saturday—he had it TiVo’d. Mosley won in the last second of the 12th round. But I was already asleep on the couch.

“Hey, you know this kid [Rodney] Stuckey on the Pistons? He look just like me! They told me earlier and I didn’t believe them, but it’s true. It’s unusual to meet someone who resembles you so much. We took a picture together. Now the next time some shit pops off in the club, I can just say, ‘Hey, it wasn’t me—it was Stuckey!’”

DAY 3
October 1, 2:03 p.m.
Back at his home in Farmington, Connecticut—a sprawling mansion he bought from Mike Tyson—50 phones with the day’s news.

“Last night I was so tired I didn’t even want to walk to the car. I’m taking these supplements called MHP—they sell them over the counter at GNC—to help me recover from workouts, and they make me really sleepy. But I have a photo shoot for my album cover in two weeks and I want to look good. I’m taking my trainer everywhere I go. His name is Jay Cardiello, but I call him Jay Cardio. We do all kinds of shit. I can bench about 405, 410, but mostly we do resistance training. You get macho guys coming in like, Gimme some plates!, but fuck that—you just need a rubber band and a mat.

“I’m actually the smallest I’ve been in a long time—just 190. I’m slimming down. There’s a type of big where you get past cool—you know, where your suit don’t fit right? I don’t want to look like a fucking wrestler.”

DAY 4
October 2, 8:37 p.m.
Battling Manhattan traffic en route to a meeting with his manager, 50 phones to check in.

“Today is nothing but meetings. I had to sign some contracts at my lawyer’s office—not the sociopath one. Then I went to my accountant’s to talk about my portfolio. I’m at the point where my money makes money, but with the market so crazy right now, I’m happy just to hang on to what I got. That’s my worst nightmare: after all these years, waking up in the same spot where I started. Broke as hell.

“I also met with this artist from Russia. He makes these plaster molds of your face, like Greek statues and shit. I found him on Google—we had to talk using a translator. I’m getting him to do one for my album cover, so I had to go to his studio and sit with plaster on my face for 45 minutes. I couldn’t move—I had to breathe through my nose. I hope it turns out good. Now I’m on my way to dinner. I think Jacob the Jeweler will be there. Maybe I’ll get some new ice!”

DAY 5
October 3, 2:10 p.m.
50 dials in from his Suburban on I-84, somewhere outside Waterbury, Connecticut.

“I’m on the road right now. Me and my driver Bruce are headed to New York to pick up my son, Marquise. Since I won the court thing, I get him every other weekend. His mom and I don’t talk at all—we do everything through a lawyer. It’s unfortunate. You know when you’ve done so much for a person that they develop a sense of entitlement? She’s like that. I mean, her shoe habits, man!

“We’re staying in New York tonight, because my son has football practice on Long Island in the morning. He just started a couple of weeks ago. I’ve seen him play basketball, but this will be the first time I get to watch him play football. He’s a tight end and o-lineman. He’s having a totally different type of upbringing than I did. He’s not even hood at all. He remembers me getting shot, but that’s it. And he’s real competitive and arrogant—I have no idea where he gets that from.”

DAY 6
October 4, 10:38 p.m.
After a full day of father-son bonding, 50 calls shortly before bed.

“We ended up driving home to Connecticut last night. My son’s team won their game, so the coach said they didn’t have to practice. Marquise played all right. I think they mostly let him play ’cause he’s 50 Cent’s kid.

“This morning I had to do some work in the studio, so I set him up with Wii bowling to keep him occupied. Them shits is amazing—they’re like baby*sitters! Then we did some training: a little basketball and about 30 minutes on the treadmill. Marquise is about to be 12, and he weighs 137 pounds—he’s turning into a little butterball. He’s a chubster. I think his mother feeds him too much fast food. But it’s all right. I was the same at that age.

“Tonight I took him to see a movie—mine! Righteous Kill. Mostly it was an ego boost for me—like, ‘See your dad up there with Pacino and De Niro? Pretty cool, right?’ He was like, ‘Yeah, Dad—that’s pretty cool.’”

DAY 7
October 5, 5:10 p.m.
50 files the final dispatch from his New York office, where he’s attending to his favorite business: business.

“Earlier, I took Marquise by to see his grandmother on Long Island. He’s on his way back to his mother’s now. We had a good weekend—I’ll miss him.

“I just got out of a meeting with a high-end clothing brand. They want me to invest. They don’t even care about my celebrity—they want money. I’m *thinking about it, crunching the *numbers. Then I went over the first *episode of my new MTV show. It’s *similar to The Apprentice—a bunch of guys who want to start their own businesses compete for $100,000 in seed money. I teach them about power using The 50th Law, my new self-*improvement book. You always gotta think about cross-*marketing.

“This afternoon I’m doing some color-correction on Before I Self Destruct, my new movie that I wrote, produced and directed myself. I also got meetings about my new dietary-supplement business and the relaunch of my clothing line. And then I have a meeting with the label staff about marketing the actual album. It’s a lot for a Sunday. But the thing you have to understand about me is, I’m an addict. I’m addicted to winning. And there’s no rehab for that.”
