Album Sales 07/16/08 - Lil Wayne Closes In On Double Platinum, No Improvement For G-Unit

For the fifth week in a row, Lil Wayne still holds the No. 1 spot on Billboard's 'Top Rap Albums Chart'.

Tha Carter III shelved off 124,600 discs this week, pushing the album's total sales to 1,806,500 copies.

Despite a major decrease in sales, G –Unit holds on to the No. 2 spot. Terminate On Sight, which moved 101,800 copies in its debut, last week, shifts 36,300 units this week. So far, the album has a total of 138,100 copies.

Posted at No. 3 is Three 6 Mafia. Last 2 Walk bags up 24,300 units this week. After 3 weeks on the chart, the album has sold 138,400 copies.

Plies moves one spot up to No. 4. Definition Of Real scans 24,000 discs this week, bringing the album's total sales to 380,200 copies.

Tech N9ne takes one step down to No. 5. Killer reels in 13,400 units in its second week. To date, the album has sold 49,600 copies

The Flobots hold fort at No. 6. 11,200 folks picked up Fight With Tools this week, bringing the album's total sales to 157,800.

Rick Ross' Trilla moves a spot up to No. 7. The set shelved off 10,000 discs this week. So far, the set has sold 619,900 copies.

Rap/reggaton duo Wisin Y Yandel hold it down at No. 8. Los Extraterr shells out 7,600 copies this week. So far, the album has sold 315,800 units.

Sitting at No. 9 is the compilation Total Club Hits. The set bags up 7,300 units in its fifth week on the charts. So far, it has sold 60,300 copies.

Wrapping up the Top 10 is Houston rapper Bun B. II Trill cashed out 6,300 copies this week, bringing the album's total sales to 221,600.

A notable debut under the Top 10 this week is Killer Mike with his latest album titled I Pledge Allegiance To The Grind II. The set sells 3,500 copies in its opening week.

G-unit isn't selling because there aren't any hits on that cd, even though it was a decent album. I really wasn't feeling C3 but he's got hits for days on there and since he's cash money's bread winner they going to drop all of them. I get money going to be massive, Comfortable probably going to be a single and that's on top of Lolipop and A Millie crossing over. Kanye had the first double platinum album in rap after 2005 and Weezy might fuck around and sell three if he keep going. All those guest verses and mixtapes paying off. I'm not a Wayne fan but he's setting the bar for hip hop in this new download era.
