This shows the huge decline in rap album sales. These are worldwide sales for the top rap albums in the last 3 years. I only listed albums that in 2006 and 2007 sold at least close to a million worldwide. As for 2008 rap album sales are embarrassing so far. Hit the rep.

people are blaming low sales too much nowadays when the real reason why they are so low is the quality of material, do you really expect either of those 5 listed releases of 2008 to go platinum?

Sales are important. Otherwise rappers shouldn't sign to a label or charge people money for their album. Thats just my opinion you know.

When rappers are selling good they are happy and laughing but when they flop suddenly it's about music quality.

Thats not totally true Money, yes price of gas is crazy and shit, but for the most part, people who buy rap albums are white suburban kids, and most of them have money, like if you have a computer, meaning everyone on this site, you should have 10 bucks to buy an album, its just mostly white kids buy rap, but mostly white kids have computers, and mostly white kids are the ones who download the shit, so thats what it is. Thats what is killing sales, even if you have the money, you can get an album a week before it hits stores, sitting in your room, you dont have to leave your seat and you get if for free, so why go out to the store and pay money a week later, thats what it is. But there are fans who do go buy the shit, I buy albums cause I like haveing the real shit, and there are people who cant afford to buy shit, with food, bills, gas etc, so getting the 5 dollar bootleg is all they can afford.

Theirs a few flaws in these comparisons.......1. The 08 albums r still selling so will be a lil higher. 2. The 06 albums been selling for 2-3 years now. 3. G-Unit, Nas, The Game, DMX, TI, and some others i prolly missed r known for high sales, and theyre all droppin this year too. 4. Some of the big names that drop last year wont drop this year aka 50 cent, Kanye, Eminem.
