News 05/01/08 - Confirmed: Mariah and Nick Are Engaged

They say when one door closes another one opens. And in this case it seems one's tragic engagement ending buds another one right on the horizon. Just as Kanye West and his longtime girlfriend Alexis publicly ended their courtship, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon started to take their place.

There were whispers of some time of courtship between the two which many, present company included, dismissed as just blogging fodder to get people talking. But it seems there is truth to the rumor -- because Access Hollywood is making it official. Here's what they are saying:

A source close to Mariah has confirmed to Access Hollywood that the music diva is engaged to Nick Cannon.

Reps for both singers were unavailable for comment.

The couple sent the rumor mill into overdrive when 38-year-old Mariah (with Nick on her arm) was seen sporting a dazzling new piece of bling on her ring finger at the after party for her Tribeca film, “Tennessee,” in New York.

When asked at the party what he loved about Mariah, 27-year-old Nick gave a one-word answer.

“Everything,” he told People. [Source]

Now I hate to be a cynical son of a b*tch about this, however we all know that Nick is good for poppin' the question but not necessarily meeting his suitors down the isle [was that a bit dramatic?] We all know he popped the question very publicly to Selita Eubanks in Times Square a couple of years back - and we see how good that went.

Let's hope Cannon, and Carey [awwwwww C&C that is SOHH Cute] can sustain the negative feedback from all the haters on their union. Because lord knows I can just see the blog entires now.
