In this week's Hip-Hop and R&B charts, Mariah Carey has the right formula to top the charts and halt a British invasion, Rick Ross keeps on "speedin'" and Ray J comes up limp.
Mariah Carey has the formula for success down pat. The R&B icon debuts at No. 1 on the charts this week, as her sixth studio album E=MC2 sold 463,000 copies, making it the biggest debuting album Carey has ever produced, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The follow up to the 2006 The Emancipation of Mimi this marks the sixth No. 1 ranking on Billboard 200 for Carey. The R&B diva is now tied with Madonna and Janet Jackson for the second most No. 1 albums among female artist. After becoming the first British female solo artist to debut on top of Billboard 200 with her album Spirit, UK import Leona Lewis lands at No. 2 this week. Although, the sultry songstress took a hit in sales with a 54% decrease in sales, her debut has amassed 300, 200 copies in just two weeks. After six weeks, Def Jam recording artist Rick Ross bows out of the Top 10 to slide to No. 11. Pushing 26,700 copies of Trilla this week, the Boss' sophomore set approached gold status at 443,100. Diddy's girls Danity Kane sing goodbye to the Top 10 as their sophomore set Welcome to the Dollhouse comes in at No. 14. With a 17% drop in sales the Making the Band starlets sold 23,000 copies this week boosting their sales to 422,300. Despite suffering a career threatening throat injury, American Idol winner Jordin Sparks continues to climb the charts one spot to No. 16 this week. Gnarls Barkley sophomore album Odd Couple climbs seven spots to No. 20 this week, with 19,800 copies sold with a 8% increase in sales. However, after four weeks, the duo is still plagued by the early leak of their set online, as the album has scanned a shockingly low 121, 200 copies. After debuting with the number one album in the country, MTV Making the Band products, Day 26 drop three spots to No. 21. After making history with selling over 3 million digital downloads of his infectious single "Low," the Download King's sales have declined by 20%.
