Fans of rapper Dr. Dre can help celebrate his birthday Saturday night at the Old Towne Pub. The star won't be there, but live music will fill the air in tribute to the former member of N.W.A., former co-owner of and artist with Death Row Records and founder and current CEO of Aftermath Entertainment. The event is a collective effort by a group of area musicians who will be performing.

Those acts include Joey Balls (of roots band Old Man Markley and punk-rock outfit Blue Collar Special), who's known for ripping into N.W.A. songs, punk style. He'll perform a medley of Dre-produced songs on acoustic guitar. The mo-odds punk band will also do their stuff, '60s garage-influenced songs that are by turns sexy and violent. Also scheduled are the Ignorant, who play good-time punk music with gusto and love, and Pu$$y Cow, a punk/cow-punk band known for performing short songs in fast bursts of energy. Ironically, there's only one hip-hop act slated: the Rap Bastardz, who perform '80s hair metal with a hip-hop beat.

Guests can have their picture taken in a photo booth with Dre's “Chronic” album cover. Additionally, there will be 40-ounce beers at special prices, free commemorative Dre Day stickers and all kinds of other fun.
