02/08/08 - 50 Cent will be in Grand Rapids this weekend

50 Cent will be performing at an entertainment weekend that is hotest by Floyd Mayweather this weekend in Grand Rapids. The boxing Superstar announced 50 Cent as a surprise late addition Thursday night. It is not known when 50 Cent will be performing.

Aside from 50 Cent's performance there also will be a Hip Hop Contest on Friday at DeltaPlex, a Celebrity Basketball Game on Saturday at Van Andel Arena and a Comedy Show headlined by Cedric the Entertainer on Sunday at the Van Andel Arena.

Schedule for the Money Mayweather Weekend:

Honorary Advisory Board induction

What: The Floyd Mayweather Foundation kicks off the weekend with a ceremony inducting an advisory board of seven prominent local residents -- Chairman William Cunningham, Metro Health executive vice president/chief medical officer; Vice Chair Lamont Walker, Warner, Norcross and Judd senior counsel; Wayman Britt, assistant Kent County administrator; Robert Dean, State of Michigan representative; Theodore Jansma Jr., psychologist; Kurt Kimball, Grand Rapids city manager; Debra Muller, Grand Rapids city commissioner.

When: 6 tonight

Where: Grand Rapids Public Museum, 272 Pearl St. NW

Admission: $25; call 452-6868

King of the Ring Freestyle Rap Battle

What: Aspiring rappers are invited to register for a rap showdown that comes with a $10,000 grand prize. The event will feature appearances by Mayweather, Chilli from TLC, Raz B., Lil' Fizz and J. Boog of B2K and J. Nice. Judges will be Jadakiss, Styles P., Swizz Beats, Kid Capri and Shawnna from Ludacris/Disturbing Tha Peace.

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: DeltaPlex Arena, 2500 Turner Ave. NW

Admission: $20, $35 for VIP seats, available at Ticketmaster outlets, 456-3333, ticketmaster.com; $50 registration fee for rappers. Registration is 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday in Grand Gallery meeting room A at DeVos Place, 303 Monroe Ave. NW.

Money Mayweather Celebrity Basketball Game

What: All-ages event features a basketball game with Mayweather, Styles P., JadaKiss, Lloyd, Bow Wow, Lil' Fizz, Raz B., J. Boog, Kid Capri, Christina Milian, Keyshia Cole, Chilli, Kolour Blind, Spinderella, Soulja Boy and Swizz Beats.

When: 4 p.m. Saturday

Where: Van Andel Arena, 130 W. Fulton St.

Admission: $20 general admission; proceeds will benefit the Floyd Mayweather Foundation and the American Cancer Society

Kid Capri Celebrity Birthday Bash

What: Basketball game after-party hosted by Mayweather and featuring Milian, Cole, Chilli, Bow Wow, Shawnna, Styles P., Jadakiss, Lloyd, Spinderella, Swizz Beats and others. As the name suggests, it's in honor of veteran rapper and DJ Kid Capri.

When: 9:30 p.m. Saturday

Where: DeVos Place, 303 Monroe Ave. NW

Admission: Ticket prices to be determined (18 and older)

Cedric the Entertainer

What: Comedy icon Cedric the Entertainer, who gained prominence on the Original Kings of Comedy tour, has become one of the most recognizable faces in comedy, thanks to his roles in movies such as "Barbershop" and "Code Name: Cleaner." I am sure he will stop by to see Eminem. They always hang out when they get a chance. For example, Eminem was over at 50s Mansion back when Curtis got released.
