Alicia and Josh Groban Battle It Out for Next Week’s #1, Jordin Sparks, Keith Urban Top Debuts

Pass the drumstick as J Records’ Alicia Keys and Reprise’s Josh Groban fight it out for the gravy.

Keys’ chart-topping As I Am and Groban’s Noel will battle it out for #1 on next week’s HITS album chart, with both in the 300-350k range heading into what retailers hope will be a profitable Black Friday.

Helping boost Groban's chances was an appearance on yesterday’s Oprah, where he sang two songs from the disc.

Jostling for top debut will be Jive/ZLG’s Idol-winning Jordin Sparks (125k-150k) and Capitol’s Mr. Kidman, unh, Keith Urban, with a greatest hits collection (125k).

Interscope’s OneRepublic, the L.A.-by-way-of-Colorado group fronted by hit songwriter Ryan Tedder, has stormed the charts thanks to Timbaland’s remix of their #1 smash, “Apologize,” and is looking at a first-week total of 70k, followed by Mercy Me, a group being boosted by a large Christian bookstore number, which could sell between 60-70k for their INO Records release, All That Is Within Me. The Grammy-nominated band from Texas has five previous albums, one of which has gone double-platinum and three others gold.

RBD, the co-ed Mexican pop group which gained fame from starring in the hit Televisa telenovela Rebelde, has sold over 10 million albums worldwide in a little over three years. Their latest for EMI, Empezar Desde Zero (Starting from Zero), looks like it could do between 35-40k, with a big Puerto Rican number.

Roc-A-Fella/IDJ Philly rapper Freeway is looking at 35k for his sophomore album, Free At Last, the long-awaited follow-up to his 2003 debut, Philadelphia Freeway.

Universal Republic is releasing Amy Winehouse’s U.K. debut, Frank, for the first time in the States, with early reports indicating it could do around 25k.

Overall, the market was up 18% vs last week, down 6% vs. same week last year and now down 14.3% year-to-date.

Freeway doin 35k.... he just released 3 singles/videos so i would expect him too stay concistant over the next weeks..but i expected more cuz jay an 50 helped him on this..

Damn Alicia....shes only gona have around a 50% drop..she could have the highest sellin album in 07

i picked up freeways cd and its not bad but 50s name is nowhere on it besides that one song he feteares on and i thought he was a coexecutive producer?

Freeway didn't promote that album well period, i knew he was gonna flop even if the album was dope, he should have done a video for the "big spender" song feat. jay-z which would also give jay promo theb probs release "take you to the top" feat 50 cent as the next single, but no he decided to do it the other way

freeway doesn't have the buzz of game in 05 where standin next too fif will get him millions of sales(no1 bring up game..just an example)...plus he aint that good... hes not a big artist...in all he would probs lose money or def jam would as it wouldn't make big sales for freeway...but then freeway just released 3 singles/videos 2 days ago.. so i wanna see the 2nd week

Nice album, I think it was very poorly advertised tho..I didnt see too much freeway on tv before his album came out..not too much hype outside of this forum...

I think nowadays if an album isnt PERFECTLY promoted it will "flop"...
In order for an album to get nice sales now, u gotta have:
1. MMAAAADDDD HYPE! like the 50 vs Kanye thing
2. GREAT SINGLES! SOMETHING LIKE "IN DA CLUB" or "REAL SLIM SHADY"
3. TOURING..YOU NEED TO BE OUT THERE PHYSICALLY WITH YOUR FANS SO THEY BUY YOUR ALBUM IN STORES AND NOT DOWNLOAD IT OR GET A BOOTLEG.
4. COMMERCIALS..MOST ALBUMS DONT HAVE COMMERCIALS BUT I BET IF THERE WAS A COMMERCIAL FOR LLOYD BANKS "ROTTEN APPLE" IT WOULD HAVE DONE A LOT BETTER IN SALES.
5. GET CREATIVE!! ALWAYS LOOK FOR A NEW WAY TO ATTRACT POSITIVE ATTENTION..REACH OUT TO FANS THAT WILL ACTUALLY BUY ALBUMS

Dude, they are just a punchline Rappers, Metaphor Rappers, they cant make the songs, Like 50 cent said "There is a difference between being a Songwriter and Rapper"...

They have no substance in their songs, u can take Lines from one SOngs and put them in the other song and it will make no difference...

For Example, since this forum is G unit based, IF u take lines From many men and put them into 21 Questions, shit will fuck up..
