The plastic surgery doctor who operated on Kanye West's mother the day before she died finally surfaced Friday and predicted the furor would soon "blow over." Dr. Jan Adams made the crack to the lawyer of another woman who sued him for mistakenly leaving a sponge inside her after a boob job.

"He felt the complications of her death was not a result of any wrongdoing that he performed and that he will be vindicated once the facts come to light," lawyer Bob Nehoray said at the San Pedro Courthouse. "He said he thinks it's going to blow over."

Donda West, 58, died last Saturday at a Los Angeles hospital a day after receiving a breast reduction and a tummy tuck from Adams - a well-known TV doctor with a history of DUI convictions and six-figure medical malpractice judgments.

Adams, 53, refused to talk about Kanye's mother when he showed up in court wearing a sharp, black, pinstriped suit and carrying a briefcase and a cell phone that had Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get it On" as a ring tone. Nehoray said he has been trying for years to get Adams to pay the $150,000 judgment his client Lori Ufondu was awarded after she was maimed in 1996.

But Adams failed to show up at a previously appointed time and arrived yesterday only after the judge issued a bench warrant. "I don't think he answers any of these lawsuits," Nehoray said. "He ignores them and lets them go into default with the hope that if he ignores them they won't exist." Adams, it turns out, also doesn't have medical malpractice insurance. California officials are seeking to revoke or suspend his medical license over his drunken-driving convictions.
