With all the incidents surrounding the Mayor of Miami as of late, the Tootsies incident, his drop from Atlantic, and the threat he put on a video shoot, apparently there is still a huge question lingering in the air, who will T Double D sign to? At press time, he has yet to provide spectators and fans with any final decisions, however, Trick states that he is willing to sign with anyone that is on his level and wants him on their label. With that being said, before anything else can progress further, Ted “Touché” Lucas, CEO of Slip N Slide, will have to sign Trick’s release, and he is definitely asking for it.
On September 18, 2007, Trick Daddy was interviewed via phone on 99 Jamz’ Big Lip Bandit Morning Show by Supa Cindy and Benji Brown. The first question that was bluntly asked was how the physical scars occurred on his face, Trick declined to comment about that, stating that his attorneys said it wise not to discuss that situation with the media. Benji then goes forth to confront him with the question that has been lingering with Trick Daddy fans and the media, “What’s going on with the G-Unit thing?” Supa Cindy then adds on, “Have you signed on to G-Unit?” Trick’s answer to that was, “G-Unit is not the only label that is looking to sign Trick. Trick Daddy was supposed to be a Free Agent, so Ted if you listening, anybody that know Ted Lucas, ya’ll know the truth, call the man, tell the man stop playing games, and go ahead and give me my release, let me eat. I’ve been representing Miami for the longest, for the last eleven years, since Luke pass me the baton, I’ve been doing my thang, I’ve been representing to the fullest, I’ve been doing big hit records and now I got people to help me. I got Rick Ross to help me, I got Trina to help me, and I got the Dunk Ryders, Brisco, Flo Rida. We got a lot of people in Miami, a lot of good music in Miami; it’s time for Miami to not only do the good music, but to also make money off of it. Anybody who know Ted Lucas, tell him to go ahead and give me my release, let me eat, let me open the doors for Miami, cause a lot of these out of town dudes moving back here thinking they gonna take over this town, I will not have that, I will be back on the news.” Trick goes forth to mention that he’s trying to do things the right way and it’s time Miami got its shine; he calls out producers Cool & Dre, saying “I need some real mo’ tracks from ya’ll, I need ya’ll to stop trying to take sides.” The next question Benji asked was, “What do you think the reason is that Ted Lucas is holding on?” He answers, “I cannot tell you in a million years and to be honest I never talked about what I did for nobody, but I’m tired of not talking about it, I did a lot for Slip N Slide Records and Atlantic Records, all you gotta do is check the real record sales, the real record spins. You do the math, ain’t nobody sold more than me on Atlantic Records besides Twista when he did that two and a half million copies on that album. I’m the man; I don’t why they don’t respect me for that.” Supa Cindy climaxes the interview with the pivotal question of the morning, “If you got your wish with where you wanna go, who do you really want be with, as far as labels go?” Trick answers, “As far as labels go, I really, I truthfully, honestly, I wanna be with somebody that’s on my level, somebody that’s not scared to take chances, somebody that’s willing to help me make money, somebody that’s an icon to the music game, somebody who respect me, not nobody who’s been in the game so long, got hundreds and hundreds of millions, but never did a feature with Trick or cleared a feature with Trick or with none of these artists, no, I rather sign with Fifty.” Supa Cindy then directs another confronting question to conclude the interview, “But wait Trick, one more question, if you do sign with G-Unit, what about the relationship you have with DJ Khaled, cause you know 50 Cent is not gonna want you to be cool with Khaled? Trick states, “No, 50 Cent is a man, he knows I’m a man, I can be cool with anyone I wanna be cool with. The problem is whoever Fifty got a beef with and I don’t believe its Khaled, as a matter of fact I know it’s not Khaled, that’s their problem. Khaled and 50 Cent can’t have a legit beef cause they don’t know each other.” Benji goes forth to scream out, “Bottom line, Ted go ahead and give the man his release, brah!” The next day, The Big Lip Bandit Morning Show had Ted “Touché” Lucas on phone and confronted him about the whole Trick Daddy situation, he states he is willing to let Trick go as he pleases and just wants him to be content with whatever endeavors he decides to venture towards. That was basically the interview in a short synopsis. I guess we’ll just have to see about that. With all that being said, certain issues that has to be addressed are the situations on both ends. I believe the reason why Lucas isn’t signing over Trick’s release, even though he said he would, is all business, I mean that’s music political suicide; he knows if he releases Trick, he’d be losing a lot money. Trick Daddy is an icon in Miami and practically all over, he is a breadwinner next to the other Miami heavyweights Rick Ross, Brisco, Flo-Rida, and Trina. Miami is united, they believe in one cause, making good music and making that money. However, Trick signing to G-Unit might be a good start, but it could go either way, Trick’s music does sell, but will G-Unit heavily promote him or will they do the same as they did with Mobb Deep and Lloyd Banks? There’s also that situation that Supa Cindy was referring to, how will Trick Daddy signing to G-Unit reflect on DJ Khaled? It is evident that there are a lot of unanswered questions that we have yet to hear and understand. One last issue, was Trick Daddy dissing Plies, he made claims about out of town dudes trying to claim his town? Tell me what ya’ll think. Who was he talking to? He said he wants to sign with 50 in that radio interview. Man I think this could be a good look, Trick sounds angry and has some passion again, I think he could make some records over at G-Unit.
