Controversial Us rap legend 50 Cent is coming to Aberdeen.

The artist has announced an eight-date arena tour in the UK, with the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre as one of his chosen venues for a gig on November 7.

The tour announcement came as a surprise after 50 Cent earlier this week announced he was pulling out of his European concert dates.

The move came after his album was beaten in the US and UK charts by his arch rival Kanye West.

Before the albums went on sale, 50 Cent vowed he would retire if his CD, Curtis, was outsold by West's.

The UK tour announcement signals he is hitting back in his bid for hip hop supremacy.

It's a major coup for the AECC to secure one of rapper's British dates.

Bosses at the Granite City venue expect tickets to sell out within minutes of going on sale at 9am tomorrow.

Clarke Milloy, managing director of the AECC, said: "This is the first time we have ever had a hip hop act at the centre, so to be included in a tour which will only see him play in eight different venues makes us feel very lucky.

"Fans in Aberdeen should be absolutely thrilled by the news. We expect this to be one of our fastest selling gigs alongside the likes of Oasis, The Killers and Foo Fighters."

50 Cent has had a phenomenal rise from his tough beginnings in the mean streets of Queens in New York.

He broke out of the world of drug dealing to pursue a rap career, which was almost stopped in its tracks when he was shot nine times by a gunman in 2000. Two years later he signed a 1 million recording deal and has since earned 11 Grammy nominations. His first two albums become multi-platinum sellers worldwide.
