Default 09/04/07 - Kanye V.S. 50 Tale of the Tape

09/04/07 - Kanye V.S. 50 Tale of the Tape

Just this once, lets forget about lyrics, skill, content, flow, and all of the other needed essentials it takes to make a great artist. This time and this time only, the only facts used will be numbers, because, like Jay-Z said “men lie women lie but numbers dont”. On September 11th, two of hip hop’s mainstream heavyweights will drop their new albums.

50 Cent will release his highly anticipated album “Curtis”, and Kanye will do the same with his 3rd album “Graduation”. With both of these artist dropping on the same day, the question of who’s album to buy still looms for many hip hop fans. With this artist breakdown I hope you will have an easier time making up your mind.
50 Cent
Real Name- Curtis Jackson
Born in- South Jamaica Queens New York
Discography-

* 2003: Get Rich or Die Tryin’
* 2005: The Massacre
* 2007: Curtis (coming September 11th)

Highest selling album- Get Rich or Die Trying-12 million worldwide
Biggest hit- In the Club
Style- Gangsta rapper
World Music Awards
Best Artist of the Year
Best New Artist
Best R&B Act
Best Hip-Hop Act
Best Pop Act

After flops from Mob Deep, Loyd Banks, and Young Buck, 50 returns to mainstream with intentions to clean house with record sales and add to his list of bangers.

What to Expect from “Curtis”

From listening to 50 talk about what he had to do to write this album, you should expect some Vintage 50. In an interview with XXl, 50 said: “I mean, it just brings memories back to me. I’m in my old space, see old faces, things start feeling the way they used to. Being able to write material from a perspective I couldn’t probably write [from] in any other space like that.”

He say’s that the album can be best compared to batman begins, because it reflects his attitude before he became rich. According to 50 this album is pre “Get Rich or Die Trying”.

Although 50’s album has been heavily hyped, he originally started off kind of slow with his first two singles “Straight to the bank” and “Fully loaded Clip”. When he put out his third single “Amusement park” and saw that he was not getting the responses he would’ve liked, he went back into the lab and added some new tracks to the album, including the two hit singles “I get money” and “Ayo Technology ft Justin Timberlake.”
Unlike 50, Kanye has experienced instant success with both of his singles. The first single, “Stronger”, has become the college student anthem, and still rules the airwaves weeks after coming out.

Kanye West
Real Name-Kanye Omari West
Born in- Atlanta Georgia, raised in Chicago Illinois
Discography-

* 2004: The College Dropout
* 2005: Late Registration
* 2007: Graduation (Coming September 11)

Highest Selling Album- Late Registration
Biggest hit- Jesus Walks
Style- Alternative
Grammy Awards
Year Category Song/Album
2005 Best Rap Album The College Dropout
2005 Best Rap Song “Jesus Walks”
2005 Best R&B Song “You Don’t Know My Name”
2006 Best Rap Album Late Registration
2006 Best Rap Song “Diamonds from Sierra Leone”
2006 Best Rap Solo Performance “Gold Digger”

Since we last saw Kanye, he has had numerous temper tantrums, been called gay, likened himself to Jesus, and even been sued a couple of times. So with all of this going on in his life, any fan would be expecting an earful from their favorite college dropout.

What to expect from “Graduation”

The main thing to expect from graduation is growth in lyrical skills, every time Kanye is asked what he think he has improved at as an artist he always says his lyrics. So look for sharper metaphors (if any) a smoother flow and even more wisecracks, with the complete elimination of skits. The hype for this album is at levels not expected, partly because of Kanye’s declaration that this album is the best work he has ever done.

As the release date approaches for both of these albums, listeners need to understand that these albums will be nothing alike. Kayne’s and 50’s sounds are totally different, and their content is like night and day. For those who are tired of the gangsta tough bravado that most artist speak/lie about, Graduation may be just the thing you need. But if you’re looking for tough gritty lines and hard beats, then Curtis is the place to be.

September 11th is the day that all is decided, will it be 50 or Kanye, will 50 have to retire or will he reign supreme once again. But the question that all of us here at ********* have to ask is this: Even if they both do outrageous numbers in their first two weeks, will both albums hold that steam or will they join the 30k plan like some of these other mainstream releases and have to stagger to platinum status or will this really be a historic period for both artist?

ps : kanye is Gay
