Kanye may win the battle, but 50 will win the war.

The highly anticipated albums from Kanye West and 50 Cent are due to drop in 8 days. Both albums have been leaked to the internet and will to some degree hurt cd sales for both artists. The perception is that “Graduation” will most likely beat “Curtis” in sales during their opening week. Kanye has 2 strong singles on the charts and is all over top 40 radio. While 50 Cent’s first 2 releases have failed to chart well, his 3rd & 4th singles “Ayo Technology” is steadily climbing the charts and “I Get Money” is number one on the streets and in the clubs. But looking internationally at both artists, I believe that 50 has the advantage. By the end of 2005 “Late Registration” had sold 2.9 million copies worldwide, while “The Massacre” sold 7.1 million copies, including 2 million in India alone. So Kanye may indeed win the 1st week wars, but I think 50 wins the overall worldwide total.

Having listened to both albums in their entirety, I have to say that both albums are really good. In my opinion....Kanye’s best singles were already released.....and 50's best singles have yet to be released. I put my 12 year old son to the task and asked him what he thought of both albums...He said “ I like what Kanye says on his records, but I like 50's music better” I said what do you mean? He said “ I listen to what Kanye says, but 50's beats make me what to jam”....His favorite songs on “Curtis” are “Fire” and “Still Will Kill”. His favorite song on "Graduation" is "Stronger". Point being that I think that “Curtis" has a little more staying power than “Graduation”. Don’t get me wrong, I think that Kanye’s album is great but I just don’t know if any other songs on the album will explode as great singles. Whereas “Curtis” is packed with great follow-up singles.

But that was back in 2005 where a nigga can be a nobody with no promotion and no single and sell 300,000 in total off the bat by without a TOP 50 single. In 2007, a nigga can have a #1 single in the country and sell 100,000 on the first week

to be fair the massacre was released in march and late registration was released in august so thats a pretty big lead for year-end sales, but i do agree 50 will probably sell more total because he has a wider fan base, but i think graduation will have the type of songs you can listen to for years (thats i guess im still holding out to listen to it when i cop it)

True! It's going to be interesting to see what happens. I know that 50 has lost fans....some through beefs and some through hate. It seems that the majority of media is pulling for Kanye to win....It's like Good verses Evil or something. Kanye's the good guy, while 50 is looked at as the bad guy. But I think a couple of months into both albums, people will see 50 continue to put out hit singles.
