07/22/07 - Akon and The Game Deny Preaching Hate

Earlier this month, family groups called for Akon, and Los Angeles rapper The Game, to be banned from touring Australia.

The Australian Family Association (AFA) said the rappers' lyrics glorified violence and were anti-women.

It urged immigration authorities to deny them visas.

Association national secretary Gabrielle Walsh said: "We don't need people from the criminal end of town acting as heroes for our young people."

But Akon and The Game deny preaching hate.

The Game, whose real name is Jayceon Taylor, recalls his nightmarish upbringing in gangland Compton, California.

"If the AFA had been with me, they would know my father molested my sisters when I was five years old. I got put into a foster home at six.

"I stayed in that foster home, without any parents, for the next 10 years. Then I was left on the streets to die by myself. I became a man on my own.

"I had to do whatever I had to do to make sure I was OK and alive, and take care of my family, and my sisters, until we all could make do on our own.
