Respond II Sound, a new documentary exploring the history of African-American street dance and its influence on American culture, will debut this weekend at the Urbanworld VIBE Film Festival in New York City. The film features commentary from KRS-One, The Black Eyed Peas, The Pharcyde and others. Respond II Sound was created by a collective of filmmakers from a diverse variety of backgrounds that includes Adrian Younge, Buddha Stretch, LEGENDARY, Carey Ysais, David Wong and Mark Luv. You can catch the documentary on Friday and Saturday June 22 and 23 at the Urbanworld VIBE Film Festival. Oakland, CA rapper Paperboy, known for his 1993 hit “Ditty,” has pleaded not guilty to charges of possessing, transporting, and intent to sell marijuana and has been released on bail. The rapper, whose real name is Mitchell Johnson, was pulled over by Merced, CA police on Wednesday June 13 and found to be in possession of $1,200 worth of marijuana. According to Tom Martin of the Merced Police Department, Johnson had been under investigation for several weeks, and a search warrant had been issued for him home. According to local station KSFN Channel 30, Paperboy has since posted bail—which was previously reported to be $20,000—and is due back in court in July. Ice Cube is setting out on a tour of Australia at the end of August with fellow West Coast vet WC. The two pioneering lyricists are scheduled to play four dates in some of the country’s largest cities, including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.
