Hello, and welcome to a very synergistic edition of Top Events, replete with more star-crossed connections than a heated game of Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon. Let's start with Eminem, who has reportedly been approached by musical theater legend Andrew Lloyd Webber to collaborate on a musical. Oh, we can just imagine a chorus line of peroxided Marshall Mathers lookalikes, a la the "Real Slim Shady" video, highkicking up a storm on family-friendly matinee hits like "Just Don't Give A F***" and "A** Like That." In semi-related news, consummate showman Michael Jackson just purchased a sizeable chunk of Eminem's back catalog....perhaps to avenge Marshall's not-so-nice Jacko parody in the "Just Lose It" video. But MJ's not getting the last laugh, as Prince has flatly rejected his suggestion that the two of them tour together. Maybe Prince'll tour with Eminem instead! Maybe they'll star in a musical together! Hey, if Eminem is willing to duet with Aida composer Elton John on TV, then anything's possible...

Next up are two ladies who've made multiple appearances in this column, and unfortunately not for their work with UNICEF or anything upstanding like that. We're talking about Britney Spears and her on/off party pal, Lindsay Lohan, of course. (By the way, for those of you who balk at the inclusion of Lindsay in a "Week In Music" wrapup, we'll have you know that L.Lo has recorded two fine, not-entirely-critically-panned albums. Just FYI.) What do these It-Girls have in common, you ask--besides a penchant for pantylessness, being BFF for about five post-K-Fed-divorce minutes, and, perhaps not coincidentally, both recording songs with "Broken Heart" in the title? Well, they've both had their recent brushes with rehab. The good news is, Britney's stay at Malibu's Promises center seems to have had some positive effect, judging by an open letter the former Mrs. Federline posted on her official website this week. It was the most gut-spilling communication from the pop star since her ill-advised Dateline interview, and we are happy to report it was a whole lot more lucid than that whole gum-chomping, fake-eyelash-shedding, snot-oozing incident. Now, assuming that Britney penned this letter herself--and yes, that's a big assumption--then she seems truly on the mend. Discussing hitting "rock bottom" in a "very humbling place called rehab," and confessing that she "just wants the same things in life that you want: to be happy," Brit sounded like she'd made it to at least #4 ("make a searching and fearless moral inventory of oneself") on her 12 Steps checklist.

Unfortch, Lindsay seemed to take quite a few big steps backwards this week: She was booked on a DUI; accused of OxyContin addiction (albeit by a not-that-credible source, her dad); and, finally, admitted to Britney's old stomping grounds, Promises. We just hope that this is Lindsay's "rock bottom," and that it doesn't take a head-shaving tattoo bender for this drama queen to get her act together....
