Rick Rubin, veteran producer and head of Warner Music Group-based American Recordings, has been offered a job as co-chairman of Columbia Records.
The man behind such tracks as “99 Problems” (Jay-Z) and “Don’t F’ With Me” (Lil Jon) is negotiating an early release from his existing contract with Warner Bros. Records, though an agreement would still allow Rubin to produce for Warner Bros. artists – including his current projects with Linkin Park and Metallica. Rubin, who also co-founded Def Jam Recordings in the 1980s, has branched off as a producer in virtually every music genre, including work with Public Enemy, Johnny Cash, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
