Post Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending

Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending

Beyonce Knowles and Jennifer Hudson held their own for another week on th charts, to remain at the number one spot with their DreamgirlsI Soundtrack. Fresh off of two Golden Globe wins, one for Hudson and another for Eddie Murphy, none for Beyonce. Still Beyonce's album, B'Day, has seen an increase in her solo albums' sales since the Dreamgirls Soundtrack was released, this week she lands at number six. For the third week in a row Akon stays at number two off the success of his radio friendly singles. After the same amount of time, Akon has sold around 1.3 mil, while Game hasn't cracked 800K yet. After five weeks, Young Jeezy still fights to stay in the top ten while Nas rests at number 14, a big drop from eighth last week. They both suffered drops from last week, but Jeezy has been able to sell more records nonetheless. Omarion, who was number one two weeks ago, keeps falling each weak and now claims the 27th spot, with almost a 50% drop off in sales from last week.
After eight weeks on the chart, Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z are 29th and 30th respectively on the top 200, but Jigga has sold 500K more to date. Eminem's Re-Up, once again fell in the top 200 but still managed to sell just a little under 30K this week. Mos Defs' Tru3 Magic, the "maybe it was/maybe it wasn't" Geffen release is seeing continual poor sales, but despite its' low numbers (selling less than 10K this week) it moves up an inch to 77th. Lil Boosie, the high-pitched rapper out of Louisiana off the UGK backed Trill Entertainment, found a way to stay in the top 200 with his release, Bad Azz Vol. 2. The long awaited, Underground Kingz album from UGK, will be out February 27th and features a long list of special guests worth the wait. After a month on the charts, DJ Clue's The Professional Part 3 and Styles P's Time is Money look to fall off the top 200 charts completely in the next two weeks if they don't see a resurgence in sales. In that same month span of time, Bow Wow and Trick Daddy have found a way to stay in the top 60 for a few weeks.
Model turned actor turned R&B singer, Tyrese aka Black Ty is seeing a lot of success with his debut album selling a little more than 230K so far. Lil Scrappy is staying around at number 85, but his sales haven't been a huge hit for his new label. After another posthumous album and a few post-death singles, Tupac (or his estate) rounds out the top 100 with Pac's Life.
That's it for this week, next week we'll see how Romeo's God's Gift does on the charts and in two weeks, Sean P is back with Jesus Price Superstar.
