Jay-Z has taken steps to remove an item from his Rocawear clothing line after animal rights activists tested one of its “faux fur” jackets, and found it was really made from raccoon dogs.

The Humane Society of the U.S. said a $265 Hunter jacket was advertised on Rocawear.com as being made of “faux fur,” but after testing the fabric, the activist group claims that the fur actually comes from animal skins.

“It is abhorrent that someone purchasing what they think is ‘faux fur’ is actually getting fur from a type of dog that may have been skinned alive,” said Wayne Pacelle, CEO and president of the Humane Society.

“False advertising and labeling of raccoon dog fur is rampant in the fashion industry, and the amount of potential consumer deception is staggering.”



On Tuesday, a Rocawear spokesperson told E! Online that the coat in question was pulled from the line as soon as Jay-Z was informed of the group’s concerns.

“We were not aware that our product included raccoon dog materials," a Rocawear rep said.

“We have immediately instructed all manufacturers and licensees that no product can be produced using this fur. In addition, we have removed those items from our Web site.”

In 2006, the Humane Society targeted a coat from Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Sean John clothing line for also using fur from raccoon dogs, which is indigenous to Asia. In response, the company promptly removed the piece from its collection.
