Def Jam Takes Jay-Z "Show Me" Leak Serious, Song Explodes On Radio

While millions of fans are not complaining about today's (Oct. 6) leak of Jay-Z's single "Show Me," his label, Def Jam is taking the breach seriously and may pursue legal action against the individual responsible for the leak.

While no one knows who the culprit behind the leak is, sources told AllHipHop.com that Def Jam has launched an internal investigation, fearing that the rapper's forthcoming comeback album Kingdom Come may be leaked in its entirety.

"The FBI may do an investigation into this," an anonymous source told AllHipHop.com. "Everything has been under lock and key, so we have no idea how the single was leaked."

"Show Me," which samples a saxophone loop originally used on Public Enemy's "Show Em Whatcha Got" from the group's 1988 Def Jam album It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, hit the Internet today and quickly went into rotation on radio stations around the United States.

The single, which was produced by Just Blaze, gained immediate and repeated airplay on stations in Philadelphia, New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta.

"I played it six times in a row at 6:00 pm today," Atlanta DJ Greg Street told AllHipHop.com. Street, who airs on Atlanta's V103 Monday through Thursday in the 6-10pm slot, said the feedback has been tremendous.

"It was so crazy [Island/Def Jam Music Group CEO] LA Reid & [Def Jam A&R] Shakir Stewart called into V-103's hotline," Street said.

Jay-Z himself was told of the leak during a performance at the Accra International Conference Center in Ghana, Africa.

Unauthorized full length albums from The Roots, Pharrell and Lupe Fiasco have all found their way to the Internet prior to hitting stores.

Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor was pushed back several times, after the original version was leaked and bootlegged months before the album's completion.

Jay-Z's Kingdom Come will reportedly hits stores Nov. 21. The album features production by Just Blaze, Kanye West, Pharrell, Timberland and others.

Yeah, they leaked it themselves, so if nobody likes it, they will change it. And I dont no what the fuck they talking about all the great feedback, shit, that song sucks fucking shit. At first I thought it was ok, not great, but after hearing it like 3 times, it is straight fucking trash, and its funny, Angie Martinez on Hot 97 was saying how she was the only one who had the song, and then I put on Power 105 in NY and they were playing it, and they said LA, Atl they all had it, so sorry Angie, you aint the only one to have it. But you cant call Jay a snitch for his label saying they want an FBI investiagion into this, how would you feel if someone took something of yours that will make you alot of money and leak it out, it aint cool. The album is so anticipated, just like Game's album, Em's comp album, 50's new album is really anticipated and the most anticipated album of all time will be Dre's Detox, so if these albums leak and shit, it will really hurt sales, and sales are down anyway so it will really hurt. And they feel if one song leaked, what is to say the whole album wont leak early, so with any album that people are really waiting for they leak the shit. If it isnt leaked on purpose by the label it leaks by really one of three ways. Either a technician from the studio working on the song or album leaks it, an A&R or someone that is close to the project on the label leaks it, or mostly it leaks when it goes to the pressing plant, where they make the cd's. Since the album is still almost two months away, It aint gonna be at the pressing plant so it was a studio tech, someone at the label or they did it themselves to get a buzz and see the response. Either way, its fucked up. But I hope the label isnt stupid enuff to think that the response is good cause dj's all over the country are playing the song fucking 6 times in a row, cause everyone I no hates it, and it seems like everyone online hates it too.
