Hip-hop museum blow

Funding for a proposed hip-hop museum in New York has been withdrawn by city authorities due to financial irregularities in the non-profit company behind the project.

The Northeast Bronx Redevelopment Corp had received $4.5 million (£2.4 million) in public funds to finance conctruction of the museum.

However, a further grant of $355,000 (£190,000) approved in June this year has now been frozen after financial irregularities came to light in the corporation's Vendex form, which is a financial questionnaire contractors in the city have to complete before construction of new building projects.

A city official told the New York Post: "The money is frozen."
